According to reporter and insider Jeff Grubb,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2is actually titledStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. This new entry in the subfranchise, per his sources, will berevealed at Star Wars Celebrationand release in early 2023 on PC and current-gen consoles only. Not much else has been said, but the name change is notable.

The identifiable name ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2would likely carry the sequel a little further, given the direct association with the first game, and so to change the subtitle is no doubt of the utmost importance. It remains to be seen, but what it brings to mind istheAssassin’s Creedfranchise. Ever sinceAC: Black Flag, subtitles have indicated a change in setting and character, and given the colon placement in “Star Wars Jedi:,” it almost sounds like Respawn could be following a similar path.

This is, of course, only speculation on the name change. But ifStar Wars Jedi: Survivoris moving on from Cal Kestis, the big question is who will replace him, and there are five good choices.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Obi-Wan Kenobi

This sounds like a wish list entry, but it does make some sense. The key factors for Obi-Wan Kenobi potentially being the main character of a newStar Wars Jedigame boil downs into a few things: the proximity between theDisney Plus show release and theStar Wars Jedi: Survivorreveal, a subtle hint by Ewan McGregor at a potentialObi-Wan KenobiandStar Warsgame connection, the time frame of the Dark Times and the amount of time between the Disney Plus show and a New Hope, and the general subtitle ofSurvivorbeing a perfect match for Obi-Wan’s time as Luke’s hidden guardian.

Now, it might all sound good and well, and this would no doubt be a power play byEA as itsStar Warsexclusivity contractcomes to an end. But, admittedly, it’s not the most likely option.

cere

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Cere

Cere was Cal Kestis’ teacher inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, but her story is not over. Having lost her apprentice to Vader, Cere struggles with the Dark Side and putting her into this role—although she has largely moved past this—could bring anew light side/dark side element toStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. She is clearly that, a survivor, and the story could continue Cal Kestis’ journey from an angle. Her former padawan asked Cere and Cal to avenge her, and stepping into Cere’s shoes to do just that would be fitting.

Furthermore, one former Respawn dev revealed how strongly the team wanted the protagonist ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderto be “black and/or a woman.” To put Cere in the lead role could fulfill that original vision, while building the best elements of the first game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Merrin

Now, Merrin is no Jedi, but she is powerful in the Force. A game starring Merrin would be unique if it embraced her roots and expanded upon then, with Merrin setting out on her own journey to understand the Jedi.Merrin may be a member of the crew, but it would not be unlike her to want to find her own place in the galaxy. That place could lead her down the Jedi path, and her background definitely fits the wholeStar Wars Jedi: Survivorsubtitle.

Ezra Bridger of Star Wars Rebels

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Ezra Bridger

Perhaps the least likely character here is Ezra Bridger, but he’s a character whose future has been in flux for some time now. He disappears, alongside Admiral Thrawn, at the end ofStar Wars Rebels, and Ahsoka seemingly references searching for him as recently as her appearance inThe Book of Boba Fett. This means that Ezra Bridger is missing for a number of years, and whileAhsoka will likely find him come her own Disney Plus show, knowing what he was up to (and surviving through) in the meantime would be interesting.

It would definitely be a different type of game, but melding theStar Warsmultimedia universetogether canonically would be a pretty smart move.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – A New Face

Ultimately, the most likely scenario is someone far removed from Cal’s crew and otherStar Wars media. Just asAssassin’s Creedintroduces new characters with every subtitle, it would be interesting forStar Wars Jedito do the same. The obvious downside to this would be if the franchise focused on the Dark Times, where there are supposed to be few Jedi and yet there seem to be more survivors year after year.Survivordefinitely seems to suggest thatthe focus on the Dark Times will continue, but nothing is stopping it from being a survivor during another time as well.

A new face and perhaps a new time would do well forStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, but untilStar Wars Celebration, fans will have to keep guessing on what it’ll entail.
