While creating a protagonist for their series, the mangaka always wants them to be the most famous character in the entire series. Most of the time, the protagonists are endowed with the rarest of abilities.

But, sometimes the mangaka ends up creating side characters, who supplant the main lead. This has happened only a few times, and it isn’t detrimental to the series. In fact, it increases the popularity of the series as a whole because there aren’t many series, which can boast of having side characters that are better than the main characters.

8Meliodas By Escanor (Seven Deadly Sins)

Escanor is by far the best character in the series. He was called the strongest member of the Seven Deadly Sins by Meliodas. Escanor had a complex personality, which was directly linked to his power.

During the day, he would be a serious and muscular man, and at night, he was docile and weak. Escanor is one of the few side characters, who actually managed to defeat the main character in a fight. Furthermore, Escanor has played a key role in all the best fights in the series. To top it all up, he went out in style, when he borrowed Mael’s power to fight the Demon King.

7Eren By Levi Ackerman (Attack On Titan)

Before his injury, Levi was the strongest soldier in the Survey Corps. In comparison to the rest of the soldiers, his abilities were on a completely different level.

Erwin had so much faith in his abilities that he was ready to sacrifice an entire platoon just to provide Levi with an opening to take down the Beast Titan.Eren’s transformation into a mindless mass murdererdamaged his character further and it boosted Levi’s popularity even more.

6Gon By Killua Zoldyck (Hunter x Hunter)

Killua Zoldyck has been Gon’s best friendever since they met during the Hunter Exams. The two of them have a lot in common, but at the same time, they are different in their own ways. Gon can be stubborn at times, and it takes Killua a great deal of effort to change his mind.

As the series progressed, Killua became more caring and understanding than Gon. On numerous occasions, Gon allowed his emotions to get the better of him. The most shocking of these incidents was when he refused to let Neferpitou heal the young girl.

5Goku By Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)

Vegeta has been the second fiddle to Goku for ages. Goku has always managed to surpass his limits and beat his opponents. On the other hand, Vegeta has suffered more losses, and he usually ends up being beaten very badly. However, Vegeta still manages to capture the hearts of the fans.

His greatest moment is undoubtedly when he sacrificed his life to save the planet. His development from a villain into a good guy was done expertly. Unlike Goku, Vegeta has been a great husband and father, which shows that even a Saiyan can fight and still be available for his family.

4Itadori By Gojo Satoru (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Gojo Satoru is the strongest sorcererinJujutsu Kaisen. Despite having an extraordinary amount of power, Gojo is not a boring character by any means. Most of the time, he is very relaxed. He rarely gets angry at someone and deals with most problems with good humor.

Itadori Yuji’s character is extremely simple, and his reason to help Gojo is rather lackluster. Gojo Satoru’s complexity makes him much more likable than Itadori. Also, Gojo has had many more impressive moments so far.

3Yagami Light By L Lawliet (Death Note)

For the most part of the series, Yagami Light and L were going neck to neck in their fight. There was hardly anything to separate the two of them. Light wanted to become a God, who would correctly judge the people of the world, and L had to stop him. Light won the fight between the two, but it was only because L was at a huge disadvantage.

Light had many resources that he used to win, but L only had his intelligence. Despite the drawback, L still managed to compete against Light to the point where the latter had to manipulate a Shinigami.

2Boruto By Kawaki (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)

Kawaki’s introduction in the series has been nothing short of a revelation. There are plenty of reasons, which make Kawaki the best new character in the series. His backstory is very well-written, and it allows the readers to connect better with him. Even after his harsh upbringing, Kawaki’s heart is in the right place.

After being treated with kindness by Naruto, Kawaki started to adore him. WhenNaruto was taken away by Jigen, Kawaki was the first person to voice his concern and he was willing to put his own life at risk to protect the man, who showed him kindness. His character has definitely been handled in a much better way than Boruto, and it is easy to see why the latter is living under Kawaki’s shadow

1Midoriya Izuku By Todoroki Shoto (My Hero Academia)

Ever since his introduction in the series, Todoroki has been labeled as one of the main candidates to become the next best hero. He had a torrid childhood as his father only thought of him as a tool, who would supplant All Might one day.

Todoroki detested his father to the point, where he wouldn’t use the power that he had inherited from his father. After living so long with this burden, Todoroki finally managed to break free from his shackles and decided to live life in his own way.
