To speculate on the reasoning behind this update, it could be because of the value that the Radeon RX 7600 offers at around the same price or lower ($230 at MicroCenter). The Radeon RX 7600 is based on the newer RDNA 3 architecture and offers better performance compared to the RDNA 2-based RX 6650 XT. Even though it has the same amount of VRAM, stream processors, compute units, and ray accelerators as the RX 6650 XT, the RX 7600 boasts slightly higher clock speeds (base – 2250 MHz, boost – 2655 MHz). It even has a lower TBP of 165W, making it more efficient than the 6650 XT.

If this turns out to be true and AMD does stop production of the RX 6650 XT, it will continue to support the card for the gamers who are using it.
