Tangy is a food cat villager inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, styled after citrus fruits. Her themed design features an orange skin with a leaf on her forehead to look like a tangerine or an orange, much like howKetchup the duck villagerlooks like a tomato. Just like how many villager’s names are puns, in Japanese, her name isHyakupa, a contraction of the Japanese words for “100 percent,“hyaku pacento, a reference to juice concentrate. Likewise, her Japanese catchphrase ismikan, meaning “tangerine.”
The citrusy cat first appeared in the firstAnimal Crossinggame on the Nintendo GameCube. Interestingly, however, Tangy appears in every game except for the mobile spinoffAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp. But in every game she’s appeared in, Tangy’s house always features a fruity theme inside. InAnimal Crossing, she had a Pineapple Bed, Pear Dresser, and Grapefruit Table brought together by the Citrus Wall and Citrus Carpet. InNew Horizons, her interior is largely unchanged with the Peach Chair, Cherry Speakers, and Juicy-Apple TV surrounded by the Orange Wall, which is nearly identical to the Citrus Wall.

If players wish to gift Tangy new furniture or items inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, Tangy prefers simple and cute clothing, such as the Retro Dress in green that she starts with. While she used to carry around the Orange Umbrella in olderAnimal Crossinggames, she uses a Strawberry Umbrella inNew Horizons. Tangy’s birthday falls on June 17, making her a Gemini. Her stereo playsK.K. Slider’s “I Love You.”
As for her personality, Tangy is apeppy villager inAnimal Crossing, meaning she sometimes gets overexcited with trivial topics and has a short attention span. She gets along well will lazy, normal, jock, sisterly, and other peppy villagers, but clashes with cranky and snooty villagers. Tangy will sometimes comment on cranky villagers' “old” and “boring” personalities are compared to her own.
Though many other food villagers such as Merengue, Ketchup, and Zucker, a reference to the Japanese snack takoyaki, rank high onAnimal Crossingvillager tier lists, Tangy only typically falls at the center around tier B as many find her not as interesting as other villagers but still cute.
Tangy has the music hobby, meaning she can be found singing without the aid of a stereo. Much like her citrusy theme, Tangy’s description is the common phrase: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Likewise, her favorite colors are green and yellow inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, likely after the colors of lemons.
