The Broken Ghost quest inApex Legendshas come to an end, leaving fans with some tantalizing details about Season 6. Fans know that Lifeline and Octane are likely to play an even bigger role, new Bangalore details has been teased for the Season 6 quest,Ash fromTitanfall 2is the new playable character, and a new map, Olympus, is coming to the Apex Games.

Yet that doesn’t answer one big question aboutApex LegendsSeason 6: should fans expect a new gun? Season 5 didn’t introduce one, as Respawn Entertainment explained that it felt not every season needed one. It does seem that Respawn is going all in with the new season, so along with the new character and the new map, it feels likely that Season 6 will see a new gun. Of course, this begs the question of what gun will it be?

Context-wise, it’s worth noting that Olympus is completely different from Kings Canyon or World’s Edge. Whereas the two current maps are more open-ended in design, Olympus is a major city complete with skyscrapers and more tight quarters, meaning sniping and CQC could have a bigger emphasis than ever.Causticand Wattson may even shine brighter than before due to this, and it’s sure to change the meta. However, given the current state of the game, a new sniper rifle seems unlikely. That doesn’t mean some new devastating weapons for CQC isn’t, though.

Apex Legends Season 6: The Volt SMG vs. The EKG

Perhaps two of the most popular weapons floating around out there are theVolt SMGand a possible Grenade Launcher. The Volt SMG is an energy-ammo based weapon which fires “blue tracers.” These are capable of drawing attention from a distance, but up close to mid range, it is a solid weapon of choice inTitanfall 2. With the introduction of the Olympus map, which again will seemingly have a bigger emphasis on CQC, the Volt is a good choice to accentuate the new map.

SMGs are agood weapon class inApex Legends, but it’s currently limited to the Alternator, the R-99, and the Prowler. The Alternator isn’t as popular now, although season 6 could fix that if it rotated Disrupter Rounds back in (as it did the Skullpiercer in Season 5). The R-99 may be the most popular one, although the Prowler with a Selectfire Receiver gives it a run for its money. Seeing more of these makes sense, but opting in for a Volt which will do better a mid-range than some of these would be a solid line-up.

The other theorized weapon is the EPG-1 Grenade Launcher, which also has a few points for it. It would likely be aGold Supply Drop weaponwith limited ammo, lest it be balanced with a long reload or something of that nature. Ever sinceApex Legendsreduced the number of grenades a player can carry, Grenade Spam isn’t as much of a competitive move anymore, and this Grenade Launcher could bring that back in a limited way. With tighter alley ways and the like, it would be a good but dangerous weapon for splash, effectively working its way into the meta.

Right now, it’s uncertain exactly what gun comes toApex Legends, but it seems like a safe bet Season 6 will deliver on this front as well. For now, fans just have to wait for the next season of thepopular battle royale gameto come around.

Apex Legendsis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
