WhenAssassin’s Creed Valhallawas first revealed, all eyes were on male Eivor. It was confirmed shortly thereafter that there would be a female version of the same character in contrast toAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, where players chose between male Alexios or female Kassandra. This saw the other character appear in-game as an antagonist, but that’s unlikely to happen since players choose between a male andfemale Eivor.
Interestingly enough, whereas Kassanda is considered the canonical character inOdyssey,Assassin’s Creed Valhallaemphasizes both characters as canon. It’s uncertain what Ubisoft means yet, but that’ll likely become clear at launch. For now, fans get their first glimpse at female Eivor in trailers, new cover arts, and more, as opposed to leaked merch beforehand.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Female Eivor
Aesthetically, the cover arts are very similar (and likely to be reversible on physical retail editions). Both male and female Eivor don the same attire, carry two axes, have the same promotional face tattoos, and have Synin sitting on their left shoulder. Both also have braided hair, althoughAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s male protagonistwith his beard as well. They even have the same tattoo where hair would naturally be, just above the ear.
The question here mosly becomes: who wears it better? From a design standpoint, male Eivoris much more broad and seemingly overall bigger than his female version, so it’s clear the outfits is fitted to the character model. On her, it looks sleek and stunning, while male Eivor’s strength makes him look bigger than life, but it makes it clear that both characters are intimidating vikings not to be. It’s a promising character design in that players should be able to approach this character however they like, especially if these aesthetics are anything to go by. The similarities work nicely and will likely go a long way in terms of buildingAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s protagonist.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Ubisoft Forward and Gameplay
InGame Rant’s preview ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, we were able to check out some combat, a drinking contest, and a little bit of the romance. The new features found in the game are nice and swift, with the combat being fluid and female Eivor feeling agile. Many note that Kassandra played a little smoother than Alexios inAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, and it make be similar due to their builds here. That can’t be said for certain, as we have not played male Eivor, but it seems like a possibility.
Everything else feels like a refinement ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, but it’s clearly a successor to it. The romance was optional and fades to black, much likeOdyssey, and there’s a lot to be explored in terms of depth. Still, it seemsAssassin’s Creed Odysseyfans will enjoy it nonetheless.
Ubisoft Forward also shows more of her gameplay in the post-show, and it seems that she’s a strong viking character with character input. One option shown is whether or not to kill a viking leader from another clan, and doing so is the honorable thing by the vikings as it is entry to Valhalla. However, an anglo-saxon ally asks her not to do this, meaning there’s more to the level of culture influence than initially expected. It shows theViking Rap battleas well, where Eivor’s commanding voice can be felt strongly as well, but she is also being shown teaching and being gentle with children.
All in all, there’s still a lot to be shown. Whether male or female gameplay is more popular remains to be seen, but it’s clear that it’s not just an option. Female Eivor feels like a unique character.
Assassin’s Creed Valhallareleases July 11, 2025, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates have yet to be confirmed.
