First announced during the May 30 State of Play,Astro Botis a new 3D platforming action-adventure game slated for release later this year. The game will feature the adorable robot Astro searching for his robot friends, called VIP Bots, while battling colorful enemies across expansive environments. Each of the missing VIP Bots represent classic PlayStation characters, such as Nathan Drake and Kratos, but future installments in theAstroseries could potentially move away from using these familiar faces and names.

In a recent interview withVGC, Nicholas Doucet of Team Asobi hinted that futureAstrogames may focus more on Astro himself, rather than relying on established PlayStation franchises and familiar characters. Doucet commented on the flexibility ofAstroas its own IP, which may allow the series to stand on its own without support from other PlayStation icons. He mentioned that Team Asobi feels “quite relaxed” about where the series could go in the future. Doucet further noted that the team’s prioritization of Astro’s design and core game elements allowed for a more “open story” which means “anything is possible.” Withpost-launch plans already underway forAstro Bot, fans could see the little robot getting even more of the spotlight one day, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
