It’s tough to say but if it does happen it probably won’t be for a while. That’s why it might be a good time to suggest some othercyberpunk-like gamesin the genre forSwitchusers to play in the meantime. Some of these stretch the limits on what an RPG is but they should still satisfy thatCyberpunk 2077-like itch.
10Astral Chain
Astral Chainis an action game that takes place in a neon future/cyberpunk world, wherein police are assisted by otherworldly beings to fight other monsters. These creatures are sort of like thePersonacreatures inthePersonaseries. The action is intense and it looks great for a Switch exclusive. It didn’t make a huge splash at launch despite the good praise but there is still hope for a sequel.
9Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIIis technically a cyberpunk-like take for the series. It was a huge departure from the more typical fantasy settings.Final Fantasy VIdabbled in the more modern aesthetic but this game went full blast into cyberpunk town.
This gritty take was one of the reasons why it became so popular even to non-RPG fans in 1997 and why it has remained a favorite decades later. Play theoriginal or remakefor a good time. The remake isn’t on Switch, but it’s still worth recommending.
8CrossCode
CrossCodeis a morerecent indie RPG. It’s not so much a cyberpunk adventure as it is one based on an MMO. It’s a typical anime storyline of being trapped in a game world. This game world does happen to have some cyberpunk-like aesthetics to it though.

The very concept of diving into another world is reminiscent ofThe Matrixwhich is another great cyberpunk franchise. That’s whyCrossCodeis still a worthy recommendation forCyberpunk 2077fans besides it just being a great indie RPG.
7Axiom Verge
Axiom Vergeis a 2D Metroidvania shooter. The newest entryjust came out, but in terms of the cyberpunk aesthetic, the original Axiom Verge is the way to go. Players are Trace, a scientist lost in a maze of wires.
He keeps coming back to life thanks to nanomachines and a mysterious AI. What’s going on? The ending has a satisfying explanation. The coolest part of the game are its glitch worlds.
6Kunai
Kunaiis more of a 2D action Metroidvania. Players assume the role of a robot with a giant screen for a face that finds itself acting like a ninja. Humanity has been crushed by a robot rebellion but players are resisting the urge to conquer.
It is one of 2020’s most overlooked games. Whether one wants a cyberpunk post-apocalypse setting or a good Metroidvania, this game deserves another look.

Each room then must be perfected in one shot. Thankfully players can slow down time to make dodging easier. It’s fast, chaotic, and a whole lot of fun thanks to the sharp gameplay.
4Azure Striker Gunvolt
Azure Striker Gunvoltis like a spiritual successor to theMega Man Xseries. That’s because the developer, Inti Creates, also worked on theMega Man Zeroportable games. There are a few entries in this series out there now, including spinoffs, but the collection of the first two is most recommended. Choose a stage, fight through cool bosses, get new powers, and repeat. Again, very heavyMega Manvibes.
3Transistor
Transistoris from Supergiant Games, the same developers behind the massive hit,Hades. Players assume the role of, Red, who has lost her voice. All she knows is that she is trying to escape some brutal fate.
Along for the ride is her talking sword,Transistor, who helps narrate things. The game is a mix between an action RPG and a strategy game. It’s a great mix of both genres in a wonderfully crafted cyberpunk world.
2Black Future ’88
Black Future ’88is a2D Roguelike shooter. As the name suggests, this pays homage to 80s action movies that tried to predict what the future was going to be like. It gives the game a nice neon retro flavor that oozes with style.
Not much carries over between runs but players can unlock new characters that might make the game easier. From cool bosses to killer weapons, this is another game that got overshadowed at launch but deserved some more love. There is a couch co-op as well.
1Neon Abyss
Neon Abyssis another 2D roguelike shooter. The only thing it is missing fromBlack Future ‘88is co-op which is a shame. On the plus side, the developers keep releasing updates, giving players more reasons to keep investing time into it. The game has a more cartoon-like and colorful aesthetic to it which makes it a better recommendation to younger gamers or gamers that don’t like excessive violence.
