The Sentinel Class isLast Epoch’sfighter/knight class, with each of its three masteries offering variations on that core theme. The Void Knight fills the classic Dark Knight role and the Forge Guard acts as a fiery tank with the ability to animate weapons and armor. The Paladin, however, is the focus of this guide.

The Paladin Mastery inLast Epochoffers a mixture of powerful fire attacks, healing, and buffs. Many healing and buffing abilities available to the Paladin can affect the whole group in multiplayer, so the Paladin is an excellent Mastery choice when playing in a group.

Weapon Types for a Paladin

The Paladin’s skills are all spells, making them uniquely suited to spell damage-boosting weaponry in certain builds. That said, most of the skills provided by the Sentinel Class itself are melee, so they’ll also need some melee damage if they plan to use any of those.

Melee-Focus

Assuming players are mainly utilizing melee skills, the ideal weapon type for a Paladin is a 2-handed Sword. These have a decent base attack rate and attack range, with the unique sword “Volcanus” offering particularly good synergy with Paladin builds.Volcanus provides a ton of buffs to fire damage, including a life leeching effect that applies to all fire damage dealt and will help to keep the Paladin alive. By pairing this with the Flame Burst Upgrade for Holy Aura and the Divine Bolt node from the Paladin Mastery tree, players can dish out a ton of extra damage while topping up their health.

If you don’t want to use Volcanus, another good choice for melee builds is seeking out a 2-handed sword with some of the following (listed in priority order): Melee Critical Strike Chance (Slayer’s), Critical Strike Chance (Assassin’s), Critical Strike Multiplier (Eviscerating), Melee Physical Damage (Marauder’s), Physical Penetration (Piercing), Melee Damage Leeched as Health (Leeching), Melee Physical Damage if Wielding a Sword, Melee Damage (Rending), Strength (Mighty), Dexterity (Dextrous.)

Spell-Focus

Players mainly utilizing spells might consider going all-in with a Staff, prioritizing Cast Speed (Shade’s), Spell Damage (Spellblade’s or Imbued), Spell Critical Strike Chance (Witch’s), Fire Damage/Lightning Damage (Pyromancer’s/Conduits), Fire Penetration/Lightning Penetration (Dragon’s/Turbulent), Fire Damage Over Time/Lightning Damage Over Time, and Increased Fire Damage and Ignite Duration.

Naturally, players should avoid picking up damage boosts and effects for elements they aren’t using. By default, the Paladin’s damaging spells (and the Smite available to all Sentinels) deal fire damage, so it’s likely easier to specialize in fire damage early on when using spells as the focus of your build.

Another weapon type that works well for a Spell-Focused Paladin is the Wand, which reduces mana costs and makes Smite incredibly spammable. Scepters should be considered when using a mixture of melee and spell skills, since they boost both melee damage and spell damage. In the off-hand, consider a shield for better defense or a catalyst to make your spells stronger.

Throwing Builds

Players building around skills like Hammer Throw and Javelinshould prioritize any weapon that has Throwing Damage (Catapult’s), Throwing Attack Speed (Slinger’s), or Throwing Damage and Reduced Mana Cost (Ballista’s.) After that, players should look for Physical Penetration (Piercing), Critical Strike Chance (Assassin’s), Critical Strike Multiplier (Eviscerating), Strength (Mighty), and Dexterity (Dextrous.) One-Handed Axes and Two-Handed Spears tend to be particularly good for Throwing Builds.
