Whether in theworld ofPokemonor real life, bugs aren’t for everyone and the largerthey are, the likelier it is that people don’t like them. Pokemon based on bugs come in a variety of types, shapes, and sizes and have been introduced from the original games,Pokemon Red & Blue, through to the newest mainline releases,Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Pokemon Bugs Araquanid

The fandom forPokemoncontains millions of people, so it’s safe to assume there are ranging levels of knowledge regarding the pocket monsters themselves. It’s always good to spend an afternoon researching and learning more about one’s favorite Pokemon, whether they’re bugs, mammals, or something completely different.

8Araquanid

Insects and arachnids come in a variety of sizes, but the one thing humans don’t want ever evolving in size and getting larger are spiders. They happen to be the source of one of the most common collective fears found on Earth, and it mostly has to do with the way they look. Araquanid, known as the Water Bubble Pokemon, is a giant Water and Bug dual-type hailing from the seventh generation ofPokemongames.

Trainers who desire to either evolve its base form Dewpider into Araquanid or simply want to capture the giant water skimmer will need to understand the Pokemon in question is an acquired taste. Not many people want to be near a six-foot-tall spider that weighs around 180 pounds.

Pokemon Bugs Golisopod

7Golisopod

It’s never really specified inthe world ofPokemonif these creaturesall hail from outer space, or if only a select few are true aliens. Golisopod makes a strong case as being one of the select Pokemon species that don’t originally hail from whatever Earth thePokemonseries bases itself in.

Standing at six feet tall and weighing close to 240 pounds, Golisopod is closer in build to a linebacker playing American football, and less that of something meant to resemble a water-dwelling insect of some sort. If Pokemon truly existed and humans came across a herd of this Hard Scale Pokemon, the ending result would likely resemble the action scenes found in a Starship Troopers movie.

Pokemon Bugs Scolipede

6Scolipede

Pokemontends to do a pretty good job in both design and description of setting the stage for what trainers should expect when running into newer Pokemon species in the wild. On paper, Scolipede is known as the Megapede Pokemon, and its design resembles something straight out of the pages of anAlice In Wonderlandnovel. Thefifth generation,Pokemon Black & White, are considered to be one of the more beloved regions and it’s home to this colossal insect.

As the final form of Venipede, this giant megapede comes in at a staggering height of just over eight feet tall. It’s unclear how much weight a Scolipede can hold on its back, but it’s clear that size-wise it has the build to transport its trainer.

5Caterpie

Caterpie is an adorable green caterpillar Pokemon from the first generation of games, native to the Kanto region. The assumption would be that a Pokemon based on the tiny tubular insects known as caterpillars would likely be small and delicate.

Though the latter of those assumptions could strike true, the former couldn’t be farther from the truth. Caterpie, according to the Pokedex, comes in at a general size of around one foot in height. It’s no wonder that in the anime Ash Ketchum’s friend Misty is terrified when a wild Caterpie stumble upon them in the forest and nearly scares the soul out of her body.

4Durant

The assumption is that Durant’s name is meant to be a mash-up of the words ‘durable’ and ‘ant’ considering it’s a giant Steel and Bug-type beast resembling an ant. That naming convention accidentally fits another meaning, which has to do with thefamous basketball player Kevin Durant.

Just like he has exceptional size and length, even among his NBA peers, Durant stands as the largest ant anyone would ever encounter. The Iron Ant Pokemon on average is around one foot tall and weighs 7 pounds. An ant the size of a small-to-medium dog is the type of insect that’ll leave a bite that’ll do much more than sting for a few hours.

3Venonat

By now mostPokemonfans have heard the theory about how Venonat’s design when compared to the Caterpie evolutionary line makes it seem like the two were switched early in production by accident and that Venonat originally evolved into Butterfree. Butterfree is a wildly popular bug Pokemon and is known for being quite large.

Its assumed original base form on the other hand has flown under the radar for an original Pokemon from the Kanto region. The rotund purple fuzz ball may look adorable, but that cuteness factor might diminish the moment people come to understand it stands at just over three feet tall. Its pink eyes aren’t as welcoming when they’re the size of dinner plates.

2Yanmega

Now, a Pokemon based on a dragonfly with the word ‘mega’ in its name should be assumed to be larger than the average dragonfly. Trainers might think that it could easily be a foot or two tall consideringPokemonis a fantasy world, but no one is ever prepared for just how large the Flying and Bug dual-type Yanmega truly is.

This jade green and vibrant red monstrosity puts the ‘dragon’ in the word dragonfly. Not only does it weigh more than 100 pounds on average, but it is also over six feet tall, and that doesn’t take into account its wingspan. Something that large that moves at high speeds would probably sound like a nightmare for anyone hiking in the middle of the woods.

1Centiskorch

A point of discussion amongPokemonfans is whether or notFire-type Pokemonwith flames coming from their bodies are fire hazards in homes. The prevailing theory is that the flames only burn things the creature that hones them intends to burn.

Either way, Fire-types in general feel a bit dangerous, and when considering there’s a ten-foot-long centipede with fire shooting from its orifices, the selling point on them becomes even more difficult. Centiskorch, a native to the Galar Region, is a powerful Fire and Bug dual-type that’s earned the distinction of being referred to as the Radiator Pokemon. I guess one benefit of training the world’s largest centipede is that it can double as a space heater and save its trainer on their heating bill at the end of the month.
