Bungie reveals that it is doubling the Glimmer cap forDestiny 2players in a January 30 update, while also confirming that the ability to modify the appearance of existing characters is finally coming prior to The Final Shape. Player expression is a major component ofDestiny 2, though it’s not quite as robust as other RPG-style games. After creating a character, players really can only change the appearance of armor and weapons, with their character model typically hidden underneath. Still,Destiny 2provides a ton of armor and weapon skins to customize for exotics, a transmog system for armor, as well as countless shaders which alter the colors of the gear it is applied to.
As a live service title, Bungie is continually adding and tweaking the overall experience, with player feedback continuing to be a major way in which the studio shapes the game. Player data largely shapes how weapons are buffed and nerf in seasonal updates, though elements that may not be working as well are also identified through feedback. In fact, just recently,Bungie removed the Togetherness modifierfrom the Coil activity after fans as many felt it made the activity more frustrating, requiring all players to stay close in order to heal. Following that, Bungie has revealed new plans to incorporate more fan feedback through the addition of two highly requested features.
Guardian Customization
Inside of theJanuary 18 blog post, Bungie revealed that it is planning to allow players to modify how their Guardian looks. As one of themost requested features forDestiny 2by fans, this change has been a long time coming for many, as once the character is created initially, there’s no way to alter the chosen haristyle, color, or facial markings. The update is planned for some time prior to The Final Shape, but once it launches, players will be able to select Modify when hovering over the character from the select screen. With no cost or limit to worry about,Destiny 2players will be able to change the body type, face, hair, and markings of their character, with the only limitation being that the type of character (Human, Exo, or Awoken) can’t be modified at all.
Destiny 2 Glimmer Cap
While the big reveal for many is the customization options, Bungie also confirmed that the current Glimmer cap is finally getting raised as well. While fans have decried the current cap of 250,000 as being far too small, especially with the Glimmer required for features like engram focusing, weapon crafting, and gear upgrading. Thankfully, Bungie is doubling the Glimmer cap, allowingDestiny 2players to now carry 500,000 once Update 7.3.4 arrives on January 30.
Many regard2024 as a hugely important year forDestiny 2, with the final expansion of the Light and Darkness Saga finally looking to end the 10-year long story, many have begun to wonder what evolution will come following that.
