TheCall of Dutyleague is making a major change to its rules in 2021, requiring competing players toplay on PC and with a controller. This change officially goes into effect at the start of next year, but the rest of the games from here on out this year will also be played exclusively on controllers.
For years, TheCall of Dutyleague has partnered with either Xbox or PlayStation as its primary console, making this change mark the first time ever thatCall of Dutyleague will use PC instead of console. Fan reaction seems to be mixed to this change so far.

The decision to restrict PC players to controllers is perhaps the most odd part of this, as there is currently a raging debate over whether or notPC players have an innate advantage over console playersbecause of their access to the mouse and keyboard setup.
More likely than not, requiring players to use only league sanctioned controllers is a way to circumvent that issue, but if everyone is going to be playing on PC anyway, some fans are curious as to why they can’t all just use mouse and keyboard. Likewise, if the goal is to make sure that all players are on equal footing, it seems strange to use PC, where specs can vary widely from build to build, rather than consoles which tend to have identical specs within models. That said, there are some otherbenefits to conducting competitive play on PCthat could outweigh these issues.
TheCall of DutyLeague will be announcing the list of allowed controllers in the near future, giving competitors a chance to figure out what works best for them. In addition to these changes,Call of DutyChallengers is also undergoing some alterations. The biggest adjustment here is thatChallengers is now cross-play, allowing players to compete regardless of what console or PC they opt to play on. PC players will still be restricted to league sanctioned controllers, however, and the league will closely monitor the performance of each platform to make sure things stay fair.
TheCall of DutyLeagueused Xbox since its first event in 2011 until 2015, and then switched over to PlayStation in 2015 throughout 2020. This four to five year pattern could be maintained, meaning this massive shift could be in effect for years to come.
