Summary

As has become tradition at this point,Call of Dutyis embracing a wide range of spooky cosmetics with The Haunting. While the annual Halloween event brings limited time modes and map redesigns for the activeCall of Dutygame andWarzone, the big star of The Haunting is usually the cosmetics. From Donnie Darko to Ghostface from theScreamfranchise, players have seen some very memorable cosmetics come to the military FPS, and this year is no different. However, while theDiablocrossover may have fans talking, it is worth considering what it could lead to next.

Alongside Spawn, Ash Williams from theEvil Deadfranchise, and internet fan favorite Skeletor,Lilith and InariusfromDiablo 4will soon be battling through Al Mazrah and other locations. Considering how Activision Blizzard is one massive company, it is a bit surprising that a crossover has taken this long to happen. While aDiablo-themed weapon blueprint may have seemed more likely than a literal angel and demon becoming Operators,Call of Dutyhas gone all-in on this collaboration. While this means moreDiablocharacters could come to the game in future Haunting events, it also suggests that other Blizzard games are not off limits. Above all others,Call of Dutycrossing over withOverwatch 2makes too much sense.

Overwatch and Call of Duty Could Embrace a Mutually Beneficial Team-Up

While its hero shooter format and colorful aesthetic ensure thatOverwatch 2feels much different thanCall of Duty, they are both FPS games, meaning that there is more DNA shared between them thanCoDandDiablo. Additionally, there was little in common betweenOverwatch 2andOne-Punch Man, showing that when it comes to crossovers, there is no point overthinking what would fit naturally into either game. Plus, with both franchises being owned and operated by Activision Blizzard, a collaboration would be all profits for the company, with none of the revenue needing to be shared like it would with licensed crossovers.

Obviously, the big draw of anyCall of Dutycollaboration is Operator skins. Whether it be a rapper likeSnoop Dogg, Lara Croft, or Homelander fromThe Boys, the other content within each bundle is second to the character itself. Fortunately,Overwatch 2is all about characters, and with several wielding guns already, they could easily fit into theCall of Dutyseries. Franchise mascot Tracer would not look out of place, nor would the visor-wearing Soldier: 76. Other grounded characters like Cassidy, Ashe, Baptiste, and Mercy could make the jump with ease as well, providing months’ worth of Operator bundle opportunities.

Still, the other cosmetics offered withinCall of Dutybundles should be considered, though they are easy enough to imagine as well. After all,Overwatch 2’s profile icons and name cards are justCall of Duty’s titles and emblems but renamed, so designs from the hero shooter could be ported straight intoCall of Dutyor reimagined in a more realistic style. Weapon charms like a little Pachimari orSojourn’s dog Murphycould be exciting, as would a basicOverwatchlogo. Best of all would be weapon blueprints, as this cosmetic type could be used to recreate everything from Tracer’s Pulse pistols to Ashe’s Viper rifle.

However, a collaboration betweenCall of DutyandOverwatchcould go both ways. Just like it is easy to imagine Operators being reskinned to look likeOverwatch 2heroes, it could be fun to think of Blizzard’s heroes cosplaying asCall of Dutyicons.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Ghostis begging to become a skin for Reaper, while turning Captain Price into Soldier: 76 makes too much sense - especially if Soldier’s visor is reworked into night vision goggles. Zarya could dress up likeCall of DutyZombies’ Nikolai, too, while Mercy would make a perfect Samantha Maxis.

Ultimately, there is no evidence to suggest that aCall of DutyandOverwatch 2collaboration will actually happen, butDiablo 4content appearing inCall of Dutycertainly makes it seem more likely. For fans of either franchise, it could prove interesting to see new takes on iconic characters, be it cartoonyCall of Dutyregulars or realisticOverwatchheroes. With potential for other cosmetics beyond skins existing, this certainly seems to be an ideal pairing.
