Cloud9 signed two marqueeFortniteplayers, Noah “Vivid” Wright and Ryan “Chap” Chaplo, to multi-year contracts to compete in the popular battle royale about six months ago. The pair previously established themselves in the game’s community as a rather formidable duo when they played as members of Team Liquid.

At the moment, it’s not clear whyCloud9 decided to make the move. Dexerto has reported that the decision to cut the two players loose left the rest of itsFortniteroster in “disarray.” It’s also reported that other team members now wonder where they stand and if they could be the next to be cut loose without much of a warning.

Chap was the first to comment on the issue with a short tweet that got straight to the point. He posted simply, “free agent, LOL” in all caps. Some of his followers believed he was joking, but he quickly made it clear he was 100 percent serious. Not long after Chap went public with his announcement, Vivid followed suit. Unlike his teammate, he went into quite a bit more detail about how he felt, though Vivid still didn’t explain what happened and why he and his partner were on the market again.

Vivid also said he didn’t receive any real explanation during a meeting withFortnitemanager Robin. He then explained he understood the decision had to do with business, but he would have liked to have been given more info on what was behind the decision. “I just think it’s just crazyyyy how we can commit to an org for 2-3 years and have no say what or where we go,” he wrote using Twitlonger. Vivid followed up the announcement that he was no longer with Cloud9 by saying he “didn’t have the energy” to look for a new team and is retiring from competitiveFortnitealtogether. Vivid’s retirement is just the latest in what has been a mini-trend in theFortniteandCall of Dutycommunity. Just a few days ago, longtime streamer TheSmithPlays announced he was also moving on to other things.
