While it appears that most of the original cast will be back for the movie, some of the diehard fans of the show want them to go all out by starting a petition to bring back season 6 character Elroy Patashnik.
With themovie on pause due to the writer’s strike, fans have made an online petition for the show to bring back Keith David, who played Patashnik in the show’s last 12 episodes, citing that David fit with the show well enough to leave a lasting impression, thus warranting his inclusion in the movie.

His interactions with other characters added depth and hilarity to each episode he appeared in. It is undeniable that Keith David’s performance was exceptional, leaving a lasting impression on fans like myself.” Hughes called for fans to band together to get David back to play Patashnik. “Keith David’s portrayal of Elroy Patashnik was widely praised by fans and critics alike. His comedic timing, chemistry with the cast, and ability to bring depth to his character were commendable. By bringing back Elroy in the Community Movie, we can ensure that this beloved character receives the recognition he deserves. Let us unite as fans and show our support for Keith David’s return!”
As of September 4, there have been 126 signatures, with the goal being 200, but that is sure to rise should the petition reach its initial goal. While fans may not be so focused on signing petitions like these for the time being with the movie’s status paused, it might also resurface sometime down the line if andwhen the movie resumes its production, though, for obvious reasons, no one knows when that is going to happen.
While Patashnik may not have been featured much in the show, it’s clear that he left a better impression on fans more than some of the other recurring characters who were introduced early on, like Professor Slater, Professor Whitman, and Vaughn Miller. He, along with Buzz Hickey and Francesca Dart, are among the characters that fans took to during the show’s six-season run andwould like to see back for the movieif given the chance.
While asking for Patashnik may be a high demand, remember thatCommunityhad the movie greenlit only after the show had been wrapped up for several years. It became a reality thanks to its popularity on streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. If the show can gain that much traction because of the internet, who’s to say Patashnik’s return is out of the question? Should the petition prove fruitful, for the sake of being on brand forCommunity, they should change the web domain to “Chang.org.”
