Summary

An extremely creativePokemonfan has shared a number of their artistic recreations of iconic pocket monsters made of bike chains. The unique medium stands out, even among other unique kinds of Pokemon fanart, likePokemon paper figures.

Pokemonfans love to illustrate and otherwise recreate their favorite Pokemon, and with over a thousand now in existence, there’s plenty to inspire artists. While plenty of artists put pen to paper or digital tablet to create their art, many also focus on 3D versions of fanart, building Pokemon from metal, wood, ceramic, or even 3D printing them.

Once such example is PokeWelder-Zach, who shared their numerous bike chain Pokemon with Reddit users. The creations are impressive not only for their execution, but also their sheer numbers. PokeWelder-Zach shared 20 Pokemon they’d created, though that’s only a sample of what they’ve been up to, as they were limited in how many images they could upload to the site. The Pokemon they shared include Alolan Ninetails and Vulpix, Spheal, Smeargle, Swablu, Hoot Hoot, Gligar, Noibat, Zubat, Ninjask, Koffing, Sandslash, Kyogre, Metagross, theDratini evolutionary tree, and Snorlax.

While some of the designs are more abstract than others due to the complex shapes and the limiting nature of using bike chains as a medium, most of them are easily recognizable. FellowPokemonfans shared comments of how impressed they were at the art, especially since it’s such an unusual method. Others wondered about other Pokemon that PokeWelder-Zach had created, with one asking about Ditto, to which the artist noted that they had made a Ditto, and shared an image of it. The artist also created three versions ofMetagrossin varying sizes, noting that the smallest one is their current favorite.

While PokeWelder-Zach hasn’t said that they’re going to make every single Pokemon like some fan artists, it’s clear that the series has inspired them greatly. Their website also indicates that they’ve recreated Pokemon from other odd items, likebuilding Alakazam out of an Elliptical exercise machine. The artist has documented their build, showing how much work and ingenuity went into it. It will be interesting to see how many future Pokemon the fan makes, and whether they choose any other unusual methods of doing so down the line.

WithPokemon’s lead wanting thePokemonseries to continue for hundreds of years, new designs will be constantly coming along and inspiring old and new fans. Only time will tell what other fascinating methods and mediums fans choose to create tributes to their favorites.
