When fans think ofElden Ring,they will most likely conjure up a memory of a particularly pretty vista or a demanding boss fight that took immense concentration to conquer. Not many would first think of slugs, but they are indeed an enemy that can be found peppered throughout the Lands Between. Often amid a horde of their own, slugs rarely pose a threat, attacking the player with spit that hinders movement more so than survival.WhenElden Ringfans praise its compelling artistic directionand the beauty that follows from it, slugs are no doubt far from their minds. But that has not stopped one artist from giving several Demigods an adorably slug-ish makeover.
Pictured by TomeyBathis, they credited their wife for crafting the slugs as a gift. Seven bosses,including Starscourge Radahn and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, have been spectacularly reimagined as “Slugscourge Slugdahn” and “Malenislug, Blade of Miquelslug” respectively. A few other Demigods, as well as Festering Fingerprint Vyke, round out the entourage of slugs. Entirely made of clay, the creations are all instantly recognizable to any that have faced their original forms in mortal combat. The armor pieces that give each slug a unique identity seem to have been painstakingly painted with excellent attention to color and detail.
Universal praise filled the comments, but one pointed out a missed opportunity to craft a rendition of the “spirit caller snake,” which is actually known as the Spirit-Caller Snail.The Snail concludes two ofElden Ring’s dungeons, summoning Crucible Knights or Godskin variants to fight the player on its behalf. With a luminescent appearance in-game, the Spirit-Caller Snail would have looked right at home among the ranks of “Slugrick the Slolden” and “Slugfrey, First Elden Slord.”
It is unknown whether slugs will feature in the upcomingElden Ringexpansion,Shadow of the Erdtree, but very little has been confirmed since its announcement in February 2023.Producer Yasuhiro Kitao offered a brief development updateearlier in December, stating that while the expansion is progressing well, fans should not expect it to be released in the immediate future. Kitao’s words are unlikely to temper the hope that a trailer forShadow of the Erdtreewill be shown at The Game Awards, especially given that FromSoftware revealedArmored Core 6during the 2022 show.
