EA Motive has been keeping busy since the studio’s formation in 2015 and doesn’t look to be slowing down as the studio is now full-steam ahead on the development of its standaloneIron Mangame. EA Motive’s core focus for the last three years has been itsremake of the hit sci-fi horror gameDead Space, which has been met with largely positive responses from players and critics since its release. With the game now in the rearview mirror, the studio confirms development of theIron Mangame will be its core focus as production begins to ramp up.
The standaloneIron Mangame from EA Motive is the first of at least three new games as part of a deal between publishing giant Electronic Arts and Marvel. All three games will reportedly be single-player driven, third-person action-adventure titles set in the Marvel universe, though neither side has hinted about other characters who could be getting their own game in the future. The games will also tell original stories, rather than outright adapting notable storylines from across Marvel Comics' history, such as Secret Wars or House of M.

EA Motive touched onIron Man’s development during an AMA on theDead Spacesubreddit, which included the remake’s senior producer, senior game writer, and various directors. The team was asked, in a since-deleted question, if it was interested in working on potential follow-ups to the 2023Dead Spaceremake. While the team said the studio was definitely interested infutureDead Spaceprojects, the team responsible for the remake is taking “a well deserved vacation” as the larger studio turns its attention to the development of the standaloneIron Mangame.
Since the studio opened its doors in 2015 under the leadership of Jade Raymond, it has been attached to notable projects under EA’s larger umbrella. It first served as a supporting developer onStar Wars Battlefront 2, primarily working on the game’s campaign, before working on its ownStar Warsgame, the starfighter-focusedStar Wars Squadrons. The 2023Dead Spaceremake was the studio’s biggest project to date, as Motive was tasked with rebuilding the gameusing the Frostbite engine.
It will likely be years before players get to see anything substantial from theIron Mangame, which has only been in development for several months as of this writing. However, players could argue some aspects of theDead Spaceremake could serve as thefoundational pieces of theIron Mangameand shorten overall development. It would not be surprising if the combat or zero gravity sequences end up serving as the base forIron Man’s own combat or flight mechanics, though only time will tell if this is the route EA Motive takes.
