Up until now, Bungie has had a reasonably predictable reveal system forDestiny 2. Since the release ofShadowkeepand the introduction of a new seasonal model, regular seasons got their trailers exactly one week ahead of their release, while the final season of the year (Arrivals, Lost) got shown off on their launch day to keep spoilers to a minimum. With the upcomingDestiny 2Season 17 set to launch next Tuesday, May 24, this pattern is seemingly changing. After there was no reveal of any kind when the community expected it to come, Bungie’sDestinycommunity manager chimed in on the issue, explaining that the company is experimenting with its “moments of discovery,” as it were.RELATED:Bungie Raising Money for Charity in Wake of Buffalo ShootingWhile Bungie already talked about stuff such asDestiny 2’s Iron Banner changes for Season 17, everything that’s been shown so far has been related to mechanical changes and existing content. There’s been absolutely no information about the theme, narrative, or new content of any sort. According to Community Manager dmg04, this is because Bungie is trying to find the best possible time span between showing off a new season and actually pushing it live.

“The trailer will come in time,” he said via a Tweet, “but for now we’re keeping things close to the chest.” The fact that Bungie went so far as to remove theaccidentally revealedDestiny 2Season 17 armorfrom its recent TWAB blog shows that the company is taking this seriously, which is somewhat unprecedented with seasonal releases. It’s also worth pointing out that one of the game’s narrative designers previously mentioned that their team “absolutely killed it” in regard to Season 17’s narrative, which could have something to do with the secrecy.

In his tweets, dmg04 also mentioned that the final TWAB post ahead of Season 17 would continue talking about the upcoming quality of life and system updates, much as Bungie’s done withDestiny 2Glaive balancing changes, for example. This does also imply that the trailer probably won’t launch alongside the TWAB.

Whatever the case may be, Bungie is pulling off some major tweaks and changes for the next season. For example,Destiny 2gets a raid and dungeon rotationfor the first time, allowing players to farm gear without worrying about weekly lockouts and drop caps. The meta, too, is bound to shift heavily, making the game’s sandbox feel fresh again. As for the seasonal theme and story, only time will tell.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
