After what seems like an unending stream of teases,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s first DLC is now set to drop on April 28th. Titled “A New Power Awakens (Part I: Whis' Training), it’ll feature the aforementioned training, an incrediblytough boss battle against Beerus, an explorable Beerus Planet, Oracle Fish, side quests, a new card battle mode, and more. There’s still quite a few details in the air, but if there’s one thing that’s made clear by this DLC, it’s the need to increase the level cap and adjust enemies in the near future.
For note, there appears to be a few ways players can fight Beerus. He’ll appear in Whis' Training at level 100 but also as the boss battle at level 250, the current level cap inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Well before hitting this cap, players can take on level 100 enemies with no sweat, even underleveled. And for those who have grinded all the way to level 250, there’s not an enemy in the game that’s worth taking on. The Time Travel machine makes this clear as day, so while enemies to be adjusted to present more of a challenge, it’s the game’s future content that would benefit from this level cap increase.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - Beerus the Destroyer
Notably, it seems unlikely that a level cap increase would arrive in the upcoming DLC, and that’s fine. It does what the game hasn’t done in its post-game yet: presenting a challenge. Atlevel 250, Beerusis already shaping up to whoop the average player. Devs took him on 10 times and could only beat him once, so assuming they were the same level, that’s going to be a real achievement, as it should be. Beerus is no laughing matter and the inclusion of Super Saiyan God for Goku and Vegeta (and that power increase) will be enough for the short term, but what about the long term?
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC - Golden Frieza
The next Boss Battle episode remains shrouded in mystery, but assuming the initial Boss Battle episode sets up a pattern, it’s not hard to predict. Via some method, players will likely unlockSuper Saiyan Bluein this second DLC, with the boss battle being Golden Frieza. Here’s where it would get stale. At level 250, Golden Frieza could still present a challenge, but a relatively similar one. It would set the character to be nothing more than another Beerus or Bonyu, and that needs to change. Even if it increased the level cap to 300, that means players would be facing stronger enemies (who should be adjusted to account), leveling up, and preparing for a battle with Golden Frieza. Otherwise, those who do the same or already have in anticipation of Beerus will just be left with another boss battle, nothing interesting.
Golden Friezadeserves better, and moreover, it would go a long way in the longevity of the game. Time will tell whatDragon Ball Z: Kakarothas in store, but a level cap increase will becoming an increasingly-needed Quality of Life improvement.
