The survival horror genre made its first leap into gamers' homes with the release ofShiryou Sensen: War of the Dead, which has players play as Lila as she fights to survive hordes of the undead. And since then, the survival horror genre has had massive success, so much so that many of them have earned a place as thebest survival games of all time. But, in recent years, there has been a rise in multiplayer survival horror games that puts players against other players in intense horror-like scenarios.

Dread Hungeris one survival game that shares some aspects fromAmong Us, but instead of imposters, players play as Thralls, which are demon-like entities that have one goal in mind: eat human flesh and survive. But, being a Thrall isn’t as easy as one would think, so players do well preparing themselves if they want to score a win.

Communicate With Other Players

Even though Thrall’s primary goal is to eliminate all other players before ending their voyage, it doesn’t mean that the Thrall player should remain silent, as that’s highly suspicious. So, Thrall players should strive to maintain ongoing communication with other players since that will build trust between their crew.

Moreover, by communicating, Thrall players will be able to accuse other players of being the Thrall, which will sound more convincing if the player strived to communicate during the voyage. But, of course, Thrall players should not overdo it since being too chatty can annoy crew members and lead to unwanted suspicion.

Learn To Survive

Thralls may be infused with the blood of a cannibalistic entity, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to the harsh environment of the Arctic Ocean. So, Thrall players will need to learn how to deal with the threats of the wild if they wish to survive long enough to eliminate their fellow crew members. Players will need to watch three critical factors: Health, Food, and Warmth throughout the entire voyage.

The Health aspect ofDread Hungeris affected by Hunger and Warmth, so as long as a player keeps those two factors up, their health will always stay at maximum. As for Food, Thrall players will need to work together with other players to hunt wild animals like rabbits or polar bears. But, of course, Thrall players can feast on the corpse of the dead found throughout the arctic, but they leave themselves exposed.

Like othersurvival games that feature lengthy gameplay, players will need to keep a careful watch on their Warmth meter. There are several ways players can do this, but the easiest way is to keep the heater/oven always fueled. Players can do this by placing coal, barrels, blubber, sticks, and arrows. Keeping in mind all of these survival tactics is crucial since Thrall players will eventually be left alone (if they manage to kill off the entire crew), which means they’ll need to fend for themselves until the end of the voyage.

Use Thrall Powers Wisely

Thralls have powerful skills that they can use throughout the voyage, but Thrall players will need to refrain from using them too often and in the vicinity of other players, or other players will notice and oust them as the Thrall. But, Thrall players will need to manage these powers since each one drains them, and once depleted, they’ll need to feast on corpses to recover them.

Thralls' first power is Whiteout, which creates a blizzard that blinds other players. The perfect time to use Whiteout is while other players are out hunting since that’ll leave them vulnerable. But, it’s important to keep in mind that Whiteout will also affect the Thrall player, so players should make sure they’re in a safe location before using it.

The following power Thralls have access to is Cannibals, which summons a group of zombies hungry for human flesh (a common theme for hardcore horror survival games). Players can use this power at any moment, but it’s best done while others are searching for resources off the ship. And the final power is Spirit Walk, which allows players to disappear briefly. Players should only use this power during a dangerous situation like being attacked by fellow crew members.

Build Totems

While Totems aren’t necessary for Thralls to survive, they provide valuable buffs that’ll help eliminate other crew members. For example, building one Totem will increase the casting speed of all Thrall powers, and if a Thrall player makes more than 6, the powers gain a significant strength boost.

And the best part is that building Totems are quite easy since they all require 3 Wood and 1 Bone. But, Thrall players will need to build Totems far away from the ship since other players can take them down and track down the one who built them. So, Thrall players should strive to build them scattered around the map and avoid placing too many in one spot.

Become A Saboteur

Sometimes the best way to eliminate the competition is by doing it from the shadows, and while this method may take longer than facing them head-on, it’s the best way to guarantee survival. Thrall players have plenty of options for sabotaging (something common in other survival games likeRust), from blowing up the furnace to stealing food from the storage. But, the most effective way to sabotage other players is by poisoning the food the cook prepares since it can be done without anyone noticing.

Once players eat poisoned food, they’ll slowly lose health, making them the perfect target for a quick kill. Thrall players can also steal coal from the furnace, which will cause the ship to lose warmth, but this will also affect the Thrall player, so it’s best done only when the player has their Warmth at max.
