Polish developer Techland officially releasedDying Light’sHellraidDLC on PC today, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions coming tomorrow. The expansion, which wasdelayed in July after aHellraidbeta testled to player feedback, costs $9.99 on Steam and will receive free content updates as soon as September, according to Techland.
Based on a previous title the developer was working on calledHellraid, which is “currently-on-hold” according to the launch trailer’s video description on YouTube, this expansion brings players into a possessed arcade machine with a “dark fantasy vibe” that replacesDying Light’s zombies with demonic skeletons and beasts such as a minotaur trapped in pillory. New swords, axes, and hammers have been added to help players, “Crush the hordes of hell,” and there is a ranked system that will be expanded further to include more weapons through free updates.

Additional content coming toHellraidincludes collectibles that will enrich the lore as well as a bounty system, according to the launch trailer’s description.Dying Light’sHellraidDLC was announced in April, and fans of the game who are still waiting to hear Light 2can take on this demonic, medieval-themed challenge with up to four players.
Dying Light 2, the sequel to Techland’s still-popular survival game released in 2015, was indefinitely delayed this January. Since then, reports have come out about the game’s issues behind the scenes, butTechland has responded toDying Light 2’s allegedly messy developmentby letting fans know the game is still on track. However, no official release window has been announced, leaving people to speculate when it will be revealed based on auxiliary material like marketing promotions.
AfterDying Light 2was delayed,Techland split with writer Chris Avellonefollowing a number of sexual harassment allegations. Avellone was the game’s narrative designer before his termination, which may have contributed to the troubles that have purportedly kept this long-anticipated title in the dark.
That being said, work onDying Light’sHellraidDLC has not affected development onDying Light 2, according to Senior PR Manager Ola Sondej. In an interview with GameCrate last month, Sondej said there are multiple development teams at Techland, and confirmed plans tocontinue supportingDying LightbeyondHellraid’s release. Whether this simply referred toHellraid’s upcoming expansions or to separate DLC will have to be seen going forward.
Dying Lightis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
