Though development on Techland’sDying Light 2has been mostly quiet since it was delayed in January, its current zombie apocalypse survival gameDying Lightis continuing to receive new content updates.Dying Light’sHellraidDLC was released this August, and while its reviews have been mixed there is a lot in it for fans to tackle. Now, the developer is bringing back a popular crossover for Halloween.
Last year,Dying LightaddedLeft 4 Dead 2contentpaying homage to Valve’s zombie shooter, which seems fitting given theLeft 4 Deadfranchise was a precursor to the kind of high-octane zombie games now seen in the likes ofDying Light. PC players can access the crossover event now, though they should hurry because it ends on October 29 at 7:00 p.m. CET.Dying Lightfans on console will have to wait “a few weeks” to access the DLC additions, though the event surrounding it will not be included.

That DLC gives players a few goodies based onLeft 4 Dead. William “Bill” Overbeck is a playable model, continuing his stint as a kind of mascot for the series based on his similar appearance in DLC forBehaviour Interactive’sDead by Daylight. Players can also grab a new type of shotgun that utilizes incendiary ammo, as well as a two-handed weapon based on Gnome Chomski - a garden gnome referencing linguist Noam Chomsky that was a popular Easter egg inLeft 4 Dead 2.
Beyond receiving that content, PC players can also access an “extremely challenging” horde-based game mode called Viral Rush that features endless waves of zombies. While the event only lasts a few days, not even extending into Halloween,Dying Lightplayers should find it an interesting little distraction for the time being.
That being said, many players will likely find any new content released inDying Lightto just be a “distraction” from the still-uncertain release ofDying Light 2. A Techland employee has confirmedmoreDying Lightsupport is planned to followHellraid, and that it would be coming from a separate team so as not to affect the sequel’s development schedule.
The re-appearance of thisLeft 4 Dead 2crossover is particularly timely, as Valve’s popular game has seen a resurgence at the tail end of 2020. Valve released a community-created update for the 11-year-oldLeft 4 Dead 2in September calledThe Last Stand, which amassed over 60,000 concurrent playersaround launch.
Dying Lightis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
