When it comes toXbox Game Pass, there are games coming and going quite often.Microsoft is good about adding new games, even if they aren’t the most well-known, at a brisk rate. The company is also dependable in that it isn’t often taking the most popular games off the service. That doesn’t mean there are never games people are dying to play that leave Game Pass, it’s a safe bet that at least one departing in September 2021 is going to affect fans
There are seven games departingXbox Game Passthis month, and those titles cover a wide variety of genres. The good news is that most of them are older, which means if someone didn’t feel as though they got to play as long as they would like, there’s a decent chance they can be found for a good price. There’s also a bit of time yet, as the first game on the list won’t depart until September 13.

Disgaea 4
Disgaea 4might be one of the most noteworthy games that isleaving Xbox Game Pass this month, not because it’s that popular anymore, but because it was never playable on Xbox consoles. This game was made for the PlayStation 3 and was eventually ported over to PC. That’s howDisgaea 4managed to be on the Game Pass service at all. This is one of the rare games that was only playable on the subscription service through the PC, and it’s one of two games departing in September that are only offered on one platform.
Disgaea 4also stands outbecause it’s one of the oldest games on the service, having first released back in 2011. It’s a tactical role-playing game that is quite a bit different from what gamers might be used to seeing these days, as characters could actually be picked up and thrown as part of the combat. The last chance to play this on Xbox Game Pass for PC will be September 15.
Company of Heroes 2
Company of Heroes 2is also ending its current run onXbox Game Pass for PC, and is doing so on the same day as Disgaea 4: September 15.
This is a sequel to the originalCompany of Heroes, and while the real-time strategy game has some well-known settings in World War 2, it does focus more on the Eastern front and the Russian armed forces. Its unique take on the situation, especially with even more World War 2-focusedgames likeCall of Duty: Vanguardreleasing soon, might makeCompany of Heroes 2worth the time to try.
Forza Motorsport 7 and Hotshot Racing
Two racing games are making theirexit from Xbox Game Pass this month, but there isn’t a ton that they have in common.Forza Motorsport 7is from a well-known and long-running racing franchise that leans heavily on providing as realistic a feel as possible. Until it departs on September 15, users can get a look at it either on PC or console, and can also take advantage of the fact that it’s on xCloud so progress can be ported between PC and the Xbox.
On the other hand,Hotshot Racingappears to be all about entertaining playersby giving more of an arcade-y feel to the game. That includes a kind of “retro” look to the graphics that isn’t going to be mistaken for aForzagame. This is also a bit of an oddity among the games leaving Game Pass in September because it’s not available on PC. Users can play it on their computers using xCloud, but this is mostly a console game that will also be gone come September 15.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tacticsis one of the newer gamesamong those leaving Game Pass. As the name of the game hints, this is a real-time strategy game based on a franchise that was probably more popular a few years ago. The game was made to go hand-in-hand with the Netflix revival of the series from years back. The game was first released in 2020 and landed on the subscription shortly thereafter. This is one of those games that could be easily overlooked when going through the massive catalog, so anyone who wants to give it one final look has a couple of weeks to do so.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
Fans ofThe Witcher 3and all the lore that surrounds the games that came before it still have a bit of time to get another fix at a completely different story withThronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.Thronebreakeris an adventure game with several puzzlesthat boasts a 30-hour campaign where players take on the role of Queen Meve, the ruler of Lyria and Rivia. All of the events take place beforeThe Witcher,so don’t expect to meet a ton of familiar faces. Still, if someone has played all the story content from the first three games and wants to get back into that world one more time, this may scratch that itch.
Probably the biggest title departing Xbox Game Pass in September is also technically the first one leaving this month.Red Dead Onlinemakes its exit on September 13, about two days before the rest of the bunch. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the online component ofRed Dead Redemption 2is leaving the service consideringRed Dead 2is leaving Game Passon September 7. What was once a pack-in is now a standalone game similar toGrand Theft Auto Online, but with an Old West theme. This game leavingXbox Game Passcould be especially frustrating to those who set up an online presence and are suddenly losing access, but the game is relatively cheap for those who want to buy it outright.
