TheFalloutseries saw a big shift with the release ofFallout 3andFallout: New Vegas. However, fans who miss the style of the original titles will soon be able to playFallout 2’s canceled sequel inFallout: New Vegasthanks to a mod.
The sequel, which still goes by its development codenameVan Buren, was being developed by Black Isle Studios before it was canceled in 2003. As details about the game have leaked online in the years since it was revealed that the sequel was set in a Southwest Commonwealth in the year 2253, 12 years afterFallout 2. Now, a group of modders is working to add it toFallout: New Vegas' sizable library of mods.

The mod, known asFallout: Revelation Bluesince theVan Burenname is owned byWasteland 3developer inXile, also released a reveal teaser to give a small look at the mod in action.Fallout:Revelation Blueuses assets fromFallout 3as well asFallout: New Vegas, and is aiming to recreateVan Burenin as accurate and faithful of a way as possible. To do this, the mod will considerFallout: New Vegasas non-canonical, as some ofVan Buren’s original characters and factions ended up appearing in the latter title, so it definitely seems that playersshouldn’t expect the mod to beFallout: New Vegas 2.
The mod’s announcement page on Nexus Mods has been hidden for now, but it did list a number ofFallout: New Vegasmods that would be required to run it. There also has been no information released on when the mod is aiming to release, but the developer’s message left on the mod’s hidden Nexus Mods page says that the team is planning on releasing a demo for the mod’s Tibbets Prison Facility ahead of its release.Fallout: New Vegasstill enjoys a large community of playerseven now, so many years after its release, and theRevelation Bluemod will likely only help maintain that.
While the mod is far from the announcement of an officialFalloutrelease, it does give fans something new to be excited about while they wait fora newFallouttitle. It will be interesting to seeVan Burenfinally come to life in some form, and it will be interesting to see howRevelation Bluecompares to theFallout 2mod that is also based heavily onVan Buren. Hopefully,Falloutfans will be able to get their hands onFallout: Revelation Bluesooner rather than later.
Fallout: New Vegasis available now on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
