Ubisoft is commemorating the five-year anniversary ofFar Cry 5with a new update for next-gen users. Now,Far Cry 5players who own a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X/S will be able to run the game in native 60 FPS.Far Cry 5is turning five on March 27. The game ditched exotic, distant settings and placed its story in the US state of Montana instead, pitting players against a doomsday cult in Hope County. During its release, the title was highly praised for its gameplay and open-world design, but also faced some criticism about its story, which was often divisive, and criticized for pulling punches when it came to actually having something political to say. Yesterday,Ubisoft teased a new anniversary update, affirming that it would bring a “highly requested feature for next-gen consoles,” as well as other surprises.RELATED:Fallout: New Vegas Fan Recreates Goodsprings in Far Cry 5Now, gamers who want to take on some of thehardest outposts in theFar Cryfranchisecan playFar Cry 5in native 60 FPS and high-resolution settings. The company also announced thatFar Cry 5would have a free weekend for people who don’t already own it, going from March 23 to 27.
The reception of the update was pretty positive. In the announcement’s Twitter comments, users mostly agreed that the updated framerate would greatly improve the experience of playingFar Cry 5on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, some were disappointed that it was not a full-blown next-gen remaster with more features.
At the moment, it’s still not clear what other updates may be coming, though. In the original teaser announcement, Ubisoft clearly stated that gamers should expect to see news over the next three weeks, which led many gamers to believe that there are more surprises down the road, or perhaps even an announcement ofFar Cry 7, which could feature more ofthe iconic villain monologuesof the series.
While Ubisoft did not updateFar Cry 5for quite some time, this does not mean that the game was also abandoned by the community. Last month, inspired by the recent release ofWWE 2K23,one player built a WWE Arena inFar Cry 5using the game’s extensive level editing tools. The arena ended up looking unlike anything present in the original game, which was fairly impressive. Projects such as this one help to keep the game alive and engage players to keep spending their time onFar Cry 5.
