Last year was certainly a different one for the games industry due in large part to the coronavirus pandemic. Many annual events like E3 were suddenly unavailable, pushing studios and publishers to figure out alternative ways to show off the games and content they had coming. For Ubisoft, the company turned to multiple digital events throughout the summer months, which included the highly anticipated open world shooter,Far Cry 6. Following the debut trailer, which heavily featured actorGiancarlo Esposito as the main antagonist Anton Castillo, the game went dark.

Following a long absence and release date delay, Ubisoft has finally given players a detailed look atFar Cry 6through multiple trailers and the first gameplay. This week, players got a good look at protagonist Dani Rojas as well as a ton of game details like the diverse open world, whichUbisoft has promised will be the biggest map yet. An overhauled notoriety system was also revealed, which looks like it may force players to think differently should they push a little too hard on the game’s world.

In a recent interview,Far Cry 6lead game designer David Grivel revealed new details and changes to the game’s new notoriety system. In previous games, if an alarm was raised at an outpost, simply deactivating the alarm and hiding or removing all threats from the area would be enough to return things to normal. However,Far Cry 6makes a number of key changes to this system where simply taking out an outpost won’t be enough to completely remove the heat from the player.

Continually raising alarms and performing actions that push against the world will cause a chain reaction. At a certain point,Yaran president Antón Castillowill send out reinforcements to hunt for the player due to all of the chaos they’re causing. Getting too close to these enemies may cause them to recognize the player’s face and take action regardless of where they are in the world.

However, the game does offer players ways to reduce the heat and go back to becoming incognito again. Thankfully, this new notoriety system gives players a new way to interact with the world. For those who would rather stay stealthy and out of the spotlight, that’s entirely possible. For those who want to embrace the chaos and gunfights, the game will respond with a different style experience as well.

Based on the trailers Ubisoft released this week, players will have plenty of options open to them for dealing with enemies inFar Cry 6. In addition to the standard guns players would expect to see,Ubisoft has crafted a number of strange and truly unique weaponsas well including one that fires CDs of the one-hit wonder Macarena. Other weapons appear to be build from every day parts like a motorcycle engine as well as unique backpack style weapons including one that can fire rockets at enemies.

Far Cry 6launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
