Now, the director in charge of theFinal Fantasy 7remake project, Tetsuya Nomura, has confirmed to The Guardian that the third game of the trilogy will connect withAdvent Childrenby its end. Nomura previously worked as the director forAdvent Children, so it’s not surprising that he would be interested in connecting these stories. However, despite talking a lot aboutFinal Fantasy 7’s inspiration and design during the interview, Nomura was rather mysterious about this and did not unveil more information about this connection.

The trilogy is taking quite a few liberties to changeFinal Fantasy 7in several ways so far, as well as giving more attention to previously small parts of the game, so it remains to be seen how it will connect toAdvent Children. For instance,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwill have Sephiroth as a playable characterfor an extended period during some parts of Nibelheim, instead of a very short section like in the original.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwill be out early next year, but the final part of the trilogy, and the connection withAdvent Children, may still be far off. Recently, the Square Enix developers revealed that they have started todraft the story of the third game inFF7’s remake trilogy, and have only completed the first part of it so far. Considering thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewas released in 2020, and the second entry in the trilogy will only be available by 2024, it’s not an exaggeration to expect the trilogy to end at around 2027 or 2028.
