At the same time, another fan designed specialPokemon RubyandSapphire-themed Game Boy Advance consoles. The latest addition to the “customverse” is the TypeBoy by FlatFootFox. Not only does its name pay a tribute to the Game Boy, but so does its design and functionality.

FlatFootFox is a tech reviewer, DIYer, and Game Boy enthusiast who is known for his innovative and intriguing mechanical keyboard designs. As shown in the Reddit post by TheStuChef, the TypeBoy by FlatFootFox is a split mechanical wireless keyboard designed in the classic purple and gray color scheme ofthe classic Game Boy. He conceived the idea after building the Sanni Open Source Cartridge Reader and tinkering with the Ergogen keyboard layout generator.

The combination of the two ideas brought forth the TypeBoy, which requires a custom-designed cartridge plugged into each of its halves. The cartridge, also designed by FlatFootFox, is called the TypePak, and it houses a custom keyboard controller PCB that offers stellar Bluetooth connectivity, a monochrome display, and a built-in LiPo battery that powers the keyboard for a sufficient time. Users can simply plug in the cartridges, power up the keyboard, and connect it to their devices. The TypeBoy is an addition to the long list of gaming-themedcustom mechanical keyboards.
