Genshin Impact’s Sumeru holds a lot of mysteries and dangers within its borders, particularly in its vast desert area. A contrast to the lush jungle where the majority of Sumeru’s people reside,Sumeru’s desert region consists of ruins of previous civilizations, various Eremite tribes who inhabit the land, and monsters endangering travelers. Players still have much to learn about Sumeru’s desert, as players can familiarize themselves with its lore by playing through the Archon Quest and other world quests. However, one particular group of powerful enemies found in Sumeru’s desert are shrouded in uneasiness: the Consecrated Beasts.
The Consecrated Beasts are an elite group of enemies inGenshin Impactfound among Sumeru’s desert, and they possess strong elemental powers comparable to other mobs like Abyss Mages and Fatui soldiers. However, their power originates from natural causes. There are five types of Consecrated Beasts: the Fanged Beast, Flying Serpent, Horned Crocodile, Red Vulture, and Scorpion, with each controlling their own specific element, proving to be formidable opponents in battle with their oversized animal physiology and special abilities.

Origins of Genshin Impact’s Consecrated Beasts
Consecrated Beasts became what they are as a result of eating the remains of higher lifeforms, such as thefallen gods of Teyvat. After consuming enough remains, these once normal animals mutated, growing in size and strength, and went through a grueling process that drove them near to death as the “greater power” they consumed was too much for them to handle. Only some animals were able to live through the mutation, and the survivors' current appearances are reflected with colors matching their respective elements and bone-like structures fused onto their bodies, as those bony shells are the remnants of the gods' carcasses and power.
In present-day Teyvat, their purpose is unknown because all they do is roam the desert and its caves, instilling fear or devouring those who encounter them.Consecrated Beasts are locatedmainly in the Desert of Hadramaveth and the Girdle of the Sands, prowling in search of prey. There’s also a lone Consecrated Scorpion in Inazuma on Yashiori Island, next to the Serpent’s Head, hinting at the possibility that creatures consumed Orobashi’s corpse.
What Might Happen to the Consecrated Beasts in Genshin Impact
Consecrated Beasts are some of the most powerful mysticalelements introduced inGenshin Impact, aside from the bosses. As shown in their gameplay, these enemies have lots of health and deal plenty of damage to players' characters. It’s perplexing how they haven’t been given much relevance to the story, considering they possess a residue of ancient gods' powers. Somebody or some group could exploit and utilize Consecrated Beasts for their own purposes, whether it may be manipulating the beasts to attack others or extracting their powers for themselves.
It seems, sooner or later, the Abyss Order or Fatui will get their hands on the Consecrated Beasts and utilize them for their own sinister purposes. The Abyss Order is always doing something suspicious, and it’s usually unclear what their goals could be with the creatures, possibly harvesting their power or manipulating them similarly to how they tried to manipulate Dvalin the dragon. Moreover, it wouldn’t be surprising ifIl Dottore or another Fatui Harbingerwere to interact with the Consecrated Beasts as well. Il Dottore’s always experimenting, and he’ll possibly try creating another god with the beasts' powers, similar to his project with Scaramouche/Wanderer, or a giant chimera made up of the Consecrated Beasts.
IfGenshin Impactwere to use Consecrated Beasts in a story quest, the route that makes the most sense is to use them as fodder to resurrect a dead god. It doesn’t have to be a god resurrected into a complete state, considering it would take loads of Consecrated Beasts to combine their power for such a purpose, but what happens to them precisely remains to be seen. Either way, there’s potential fora new boss type inGenshin Impact, one with the potential for an amazing story too.
Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
