AGenshin Impactvideo reveals the real-life locations that inspired HoYoverse to create the game world known as Teyvat. This enormous continent consists of seven different nations, each of which has a symbolic element, an Archon, and its divine ideals.

At the moment,Genshin Impactplayers can explore four out of these seven regions: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and the recently added Sumeru nation. Sumeru’s introduction took world design to the next level as the region is much more interactive compared to the previous three nations.

Reddit user Souvik_Dutta has shared an interesting video on the official Genshin Impact subreddit that already gathered almost 7k upvotes. The video compares some of the in-game locations with similar iconic landmarks that can be found in real life. The first example in the video shows that Huagang Stone Forest, which can be found in the western part of Liyue, is probably based on Tianzi Mountain in China. The whole Liyue nation is inspired by Chinese culture which is the main reason whythe annual Lantern Rite Festival that celebrates Chinese New Yearis always held in this region. Even the iconic Luhua Pool which features of a number of interesting puzzles is inspired by the famous Huanglong River in Sichuan, China.

According to the video, the City of Mondstadt is based on two locations, the capital of Switzerland Bern, and Mont-Saint-Michel, which is a tidal island located in Normandy, France. Mondstadt was the first region introduced to the game back in September 2020. Recent rumors have been hinting thatMondstadt could receive a significant expansionin the upcoming months.

The video compares the Raiden Shogun’s residence, Tenshukaku, with the popular Himeji Castle in Japan which makes sense considering that the Inazuma region is heavily influenced by Japanese culture. While the video does not mention anything related to the recent Sumeru region, it’s safe to say that the Dendro nation was inspired by Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian cultures. Even though Sumeru arrived just a couple of months ago, recent rumors have been hinting at thenext major region which is expected to be Fontaine.

The region will apparently be based on France, and it will be connected to the western part of Liyue. PreviousGenshin Impactleaks have revealed severalnew playable characters that will be tied with Fontaine. These leaks should still be taken with a grain of salt since Fontaine’s official arrival is many months away.
