Ghost of Tsushima, the Sucker Punch action game set in feudal Japan, is back for one more showing in 2019. As Tuesday morning’s PlayStation State of Play event came to a close, one final trailer came on-screen. Despite the build-up and the promising tease of a new trailer, news aboutGhost of Tsushimawas not to be. The teaser instead revealed thatGhost of Tsushima’s full trailer would be debuting Thursday during The Game Awards 2019 and that the State of Play event was just build-up.
Rather than release the full trailer, theState of Play event from PlayStationreleased just a brief glimpse of it. The trailer starts with another beautiful environmental shot, not too unlikeGhost of Tsushima’s initial reveal with its bright red maple leaves. This trailer instead offered up a forest of golden trees, though their leaves similarly blow through the scene with the wind. In the trailer, a squad of soldiers move down a path only to be met with a single opponent standing in their way. As the squad looks down the path toward a golden horizon, the sole samurai draws their sword, limned in golden light.

The trailer, naturally, ends as the squad and the samurai move to initiate a fight. The full trailer is certain to continue the action. GivenGhost of Tsushima’s previous high-quality cinematic trailers, excited fans will be treated to something special come The Game Awards 2019. And while it wasn’t expressly hinted at during State of Play, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sucker Punch decided to shareGhost of Tsushima’s new release date, too.
After the State of Play event ended, The Game Awards 2019 host and producerGeoff Keighleytook to Twitter to confirm Sony’s reveal. Keighley tells fans “don’t miss a world premiere new look atGhost of Tsushima,” but doesn’t spoil any further information about the trailer’s content. However, Keighley does tease one extra detail about the trailer. He says that theGhost of Tsushimapremiere will be the longest of The Game Awards 2019.
Sucker Punch has been quiet aboutGhost of Tsushimafor some time now. Despite being a featured title during Sony’sE3 2018presentation, the game has largely gone unrepresented at PlayStation events since. This, in part, is due to an unspoken delay that was never officially confirmed. Official or not,Ghost of Tsushima’s release date is speculated to now be during the second half of 2019.
