There have been plenty of allies to stand alongside Batman in defense of Gotham City, but only one can be the first, andNightwingis the hero who can lay claim to that distinction. Dick Grayson has been one of Batman’s most loyal allies, even getting the chance to wear the cowl for a short time, and appears set to be the de-facto team leader in Warner Bros. and DC’s newest title,Gotham Knights. WB Games Montreal went a little deeper into this with a new trailer giving players a better look at how Nightwing plans to defend Gotham City and some customization options available at players' fingertips.
Gotham Knightsis the latest Batman game from developer WB Games Montreal, the team behind theBatman: Arkhamprequel,Batman: Arkham Origins. The game thrusts Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood into the spotlight in the wake of Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon’s deaths, making the surviving Bat family Gotham City’s sole protectors against crime and corruption. At the core of this corruption is the mysterious Court of Owls, a secret society which has controlled Gotham for generations from the shadows and has the Bat family in its sights, forcing the heroes to uncover the truth behind the Court and stop its plans once and for all.

The new character trailer for the game gives players a better look at Nightwing, including his combat style and the character customization. Given the player’s history as a trapeze artist in the circus, his combat style is fittingly agile and acrobatic, with his escrima sticks providing a literal jolt to his blows and wrist darts to daze enemies. It then provides a look at two of the alternate suits players can equip to give Nightwing some extra flair, the first being a sleeker suit and a buzzcut while the second looks like something out ofMortal Kombat. Players also get a quick look at the Flying Trapeze, Nightwing’s glider to help traverse the roofs ofGotham City.
In a game starring the Bat family, it makes sense for Nightwing to be front-and-center given his long history with Batman. Nightwing’s personal history, much like Batman’s, is mired in tragedy as his family, the Flying Graysons, were killed after mobsters sabotaged the trapeze wires when they failed to pay protection money. What sets Nightwing apart, though, is his seemingly eternal optimism contrasting the dark and brooding nature of characters like Batman,Red Hood, and Damian Wayne.
Nightwing is also a proven leader given his time with the Teen Titans and his short runs as Batman, most recently taking up the cowl after Bruce Wayne’s apparent death in the 2008 DC crossover comic eventFinal Crisis. It was this time which also saw Damian Wayne thrust into the spotlight as the new Robin, though it is not clear if the latter will be inGotham KnightsasTim Drakeis confirmed to be the playable Robin.
Gotham Knightsis scheduled to release on October 25 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
