While some of the Netflix original shows didn’t do so well with the audience and their cancelation didn’t surprise anyone, others were canceled after just one season despite their positive reviews and ratings. Since there’s seemingly no clear indicator of which well-rated Netflix show is going to get canceled before it does, fans can never be sure whether they get to see more of their favorite heroes' adventures or not.

5The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself

In recent years, Netflix drew attention to itself by canceling multiple well-accepted shows after just one season. One of the most recent examples is the fantasy dramaThe Bastard Son & The Devil Himselfbased on the book trilogy by Sally Green. Clocking an above-average rating of 7.6 on IMDb, the series centers on Nathan,a teenager who was born to an evil wizardand, as such, has been persecuted by the white witches since his birth.

With only eight episodes, the first season keeps a fast pace and draws the audience into a world populated by characters whom they sometimes love to hate. The series combines the brutality of growing up as an unwanted individual with the beauty of discovering first love and building friendships. Many viewers were looking forward to seeing more of Nathan’s adventures but if they wish to learn what happened to him, they’ll now have to read the books instead.

4I Am Not Okay With This

Just like the main heroine Sydney wasn’t okay with all the bad things that were happening in her life, the fans of the show weren’t okay with it being canceled after only one season. Presumably, due to the pandemic,I Am Not Okay with Thisdidn’t continue despite its overall high ratings. With only seven episodes with a running time of around 20 minutes for each of the episodes, it’s easy to streamI Am Not Okay withThisin a single afternoon, and then be left gaping after the show’sending to the final cliffhanger.

As Sydney discovers more of her unusual powers and tries to juggle school and the crush on her best friend Dina, the series manages to combine the supernatural with the well-known, mundane things, and creates a captivating whole. Sophia Lillis as Sydney becomes a relatable heroine, and it’d be interesting to see how she would develop her powers in future seasons if they were made.

3Julie And The Phantoms

With an average IMDb rating of 8.4,Julie and the Phantomsis another teen-oriented Netflix show that wasn’t renewed for a second season even though its story was far from over. The show stars Madison Reyes as Julie, a young talented singer who has a hard time dealing with the death of her mom. That changes whenshe meets three young ghostsfrom a boy band, and they decide to do music together since Julie seems to be the only one who can hear them and see them.

The show brings together drama and comedy thanks to the fact Julie can see her new friends and her family and friends can’t. As the main characters are played by talented singers,Julie and the Phantomsoffers more than one memorable music performance. It deals with the topic of grief, and loss, but also friendship and first love. The finale keeps a lot of questions open but at leastJulie and the Phantomsdon’t end on such a major cliffhanger asI Am Not Okay with This.

2Spinning Out

One thing that’s true for Netflix is that it doesn’t discriminate and cancels shows regardless of whether they contain fantastic elements or not. Spinning Outisn’t always an optimistic story, but it has the power to make the audience think about what they’re seeing and what Kat’s going through. On the plus side, the scenes in which Kat and other characters are skating are often breathtaking thanks to their choreography and overall visuals.

1Teenage Bounty Hunters

Overall, it seems like that shows about teenagers have a harder time on Netflix.Teenage Bounty Huntersgarnered positive reviews from critics and viewers alike, but that didn’t save the show from cancelation. Centering on two sisters who beginmaking money as bounty hunterswhile they try to keep their new job a secret offered a lot of fun and action moments.

At the same time, it contained a fair bit of drama since the main heroines have to hide who they truly are from the rest of the world. The series' original concept entertained the audience, but they only got ten episodes of Blair’s and Sterling’s adventure before the show was axed.
