Excitement for the new Disney Plus seriesHawkeyehas been building since its announcement back in 2019. With its debut on the streaming platform just around the corner, Marvel Studios has released three brand new character posters for Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld.
The inclusion of an original series based on the MCU’sHawkeyewas one of the big draws for Disney Plus when the platform launched two years ago. The series was just one of many to face a delayed production in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but its release date was finally revealed in July this year along with the firstofficial photos of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop.

The character posters revealed are of Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Renner), his protege Kate Bishop (Steinfeld), and the already-adored Lucky the Pizza Dog (revered performer, Jolt the Golden Retriever). The posters are all in a recognizable purple hue and feature colorful fairy lights in the background. Lucky is even wearing an adorable Santa hat.Previous trailers forHawkeye, including the most recent one eleased in October, have set the series up as a holiday adventure, so the lights and the Santa hat fit the Christmastime theme perfectly.
Clint Barton and Kate Bishop may be the two leads of the series, but Lucky seems to already be stealing the show, asa newHawkeyeposter spotted at Disneylandrecently has already shown. Lucky is the canine companion to Clint in the comic books, the first issue of which centers on Hawkeye trying to save him. The show is thought to be heavily inspired by the 2012-2015 Eisner-winning run of the comics by Matt Fraction and David Aja. Kate Bishop as a character was first introduced in theYoung Avengerscomics and then went on to appear in Fraction’sHawkeyeseries as Clint’s protege. The picture of Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop released today shows her in a costume that looks fairly faithful to the comic book version, suggesting the series may follow the source material closely.
The character ofHawkeye has never been a fan favorite, especially when compared to the other Avengers. A man with a bow and arrow next to hugely powerful superheroes with all sorts of amazing abilities is not the most impressive, and he has often been viewed as a sort of tag-along. But his story got darker and more meaningful when losing his entire family after the failed attempt at stopping Thanos inAvengers: Infinity War.Now, the Disney Plus series has a chance to bring more emotional depth to a neglected character with the father-and-daughter-like team of Clint and Kate, a kind of odd-couple dynamic that promises heart and humor and, potentially, redemption.
It is Steinfeld’s first appearance in the MCU, and fans of the comic will know that Kate eventually takes up the mantle of Hawkeye from Clint. There is much hype surrounding the character’s inclusion and what it means for the future of Hawkeye, and it appears likeKate Bishop is in a safepair of hands with Steinfeld. Expectant fans will be treated to the first two episodes being released together next week.
