Hogwarts Legacyfollows the journey of a young fifth-year student during their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Shortly after they arrive at the famed wizarding school, they will be given the freedom to explore the world outside the castle’s walls, where they will come across a variety of magical beasts.

Most of the beasts inHogwarts Legacyare pretty friendly, some can even be rescued and raised in the player’sRoom of Requirement, but a select few will attack if the protagonist gets too close. The Dark Mongrels found roaming the world are no exception, but players will need to seek them out if they hope to acquireMongrel Fur.
What Does Mongrel Fur Do?
Once obtained, Mongrel Fur can be used tobrew the Edurus Potion, an extremely useful potion that canboost the protagonist’s defensefor a total of twenty seconds. In order to make an Edurus Potion, the player will need to unlock aPotions Stationand then interact with one whilein possession of Ashwinder Eggsand Mongrel Fur.

For those who wish to obtain an Edurus Potion without brewing one, they can visitJ. Pippin’s Potions in Hogsmeadeand purchase onefor 300 Galleons. J. Pippin will run out of Edurus Potions from time to time, however, so players should familiarize themselves with potion-making if they wish to always have access to the potions they want.
Where To Find Mongrel Fur
There are two ways to obtain Mongrel Fur inHogwarts Legacy. The easiest way to acquire some is tofast-travel to West Hogsmeadeand enter J. Pippin’s Potions.J. Pippin sells Mongrel Fur for 50 Galleons, so those who only wish to acquire a few should buy them from him at his store.
However, the most reliable way to acquire Mongrel Fur inHogwarts Legacyis to seek out theDark Mongrelsroaming around the map and defeat them. These wolf-like enemies can be found pretty frequently by exploring the world ofHogwarts Legacy, but they are always guaranteed to spawn atMongrel Lairs.
To find a Mongrel Lair, the player shouldfast-travel to the East Hogsmeade Valley Floo Flame, mount their broom, andfly slightly southeastuntil they reach the railway line. Just on the other side, inside the forest, awaits a pack of Dark Mongrels.
Defeating one Dark Mongrel is pretty straightforward, but surviving a group attack can be a little difficult if the player approaches the battle unprepared. The best way to vanquish these enemies is to maintain a safe distance whiledodging and parrying their attacks. Once the pack has been slain, the player shouldcast the Revelio spellto check if any of the Dark Mongrels dropped Mongrel Fur after they were beaten.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on April 4, and a Switch version will release on July 25.
