Horizon: Forbidden Westhas players attacking both human foes and ginormous robotic animals in a hope to find a way to save Earth from near destruction. These same robots that were once used to save mother nature now begin to destroy it, and Aloy is the only woman able to stop it.
Each enemy that a player faces has its own attacks which will hit a player for certain effects such as acid, shock, or pure melee damage. Players can obtain different armors while exploring that not only give them better defense against these certain factors, but alsobuff Aloy’s abilities. This is needed greatly at the start of the game, and that’s why these are the armors players should consider acquiring as soon as possible.
8Utaru Harvester
This may be the first outfit players will get their hands on, especially as it can only be purchased from Plainsong, Scalding Spear, or The Bulwark. Players will want to pursue theresources required for this armornear the beginning of the game.

As an infiltrator set, the Utaru Harvester will boost a player’s stealth skills as this outfit reduces the player’s visibility for enemies as well as doing more damage with ranged stealth attacks. The only thing players need to look out for is foes that attack with shock damage, as this is its greatest vulnerability.
7Nora Huntress
Players with a keen eye may have noticed that the Nora huntress outfit inHorizon: Forbidden Westis actually Aloy’s original outfit fromHorizon: Zero Dawn. In this latest title, the outfit has been repurposed to give Aloy a stealthy advantage against her foes. It can be bought as early as Chainscrape or Barren Light.
Similar to the Utaru Harvester gear, Nora Huntress gives the best buffs while in stealth.Using a Silent Strikewill heal the player while also reducing the player’s visibility. However, it is weak to many elements, which means a player must stay in stealth if they hope to survive.
6Carja Wanderer
Horizon: Forbidden Westallows players to experiment with their play style. This can be boosted by different sorts of armor such as the trapper class gear known as the Carja Wanderer. Naturally, this set of Carja attire boosts the usefulness of traps; in this case, how quickly the player can deploy them. It also allows the player to take less damage from their own traps.

There is also a small buff to the player’s health, making them more durable if they fall into combat. Players can purchase this gear at either Scalding Spear or The Bulwark as long as they have the right resources for it.
5Oseram Explorer
The vast majority of the game encourages the player to focus their time on the bow. However, there is armor available for those that wish toget their hands dirty. Early into the game, players should look in Chainscrape or Barren Light to pursue the warrior type gear known as the Oseram Explorer if they are looking for something that will buff their spear.
This bulky increases the damage of not only critical strikes, but also power attacks, all while greatly resisting returning melee attacks. Unfortunately, this does mean it has no resistances to elemental attacks, which makes it not a great choice against most machines.
4Carja Shadow
Although the armor may be called Carja Shadow, this set of gear actually specializes in survivability, not being an Infiltrator. Found in Plainsong and Scalding Spear, this set of armor hopes to help players that struggle to avoid lethal hits from foes.
While in a critical state from a lack of health, the Carja Shadow armor actually increases the player’s defense. It is also a great set when consuming berries, as it increases all healing properties from them as well as healing the player faster. Even with its lack of elemental resistances, the Carja Shadow is still a great beginning choice.
3Nora Champion
Unlike other armor sets on this list, players don’t need to purchase the Nora Champion gear. Instaad, they will unlock it by completing the early side quest of The Bristlebacks. Once finishing this, the player will earn this beginner infiltrator armor. Once again, this set is beneficial for those that are looking to attack stealthily from a distance. With this armor equipped, players will deal more damage from ranged stealth attacks.

In addition to this, it also improves Aloy’s concentration, so she can aim her bow for longer. While it might not be anything special, it’s a great way for a player tobegin their stealth journeyuntil they can find something better.
2Nora Anointed
Unsurprisingly, one of the best sets of armor at the beginning of the game is the one that Aloy starts with. The Nora Anointed armor has everything a player needs to survive, due to having all-round decent stats.
In addition to keeping Aloy well-defended, this gear also has its own decent buffs, such asallowing the player to heal for moreand faster as well as an increase to concentration. Due to its brilliant acid resistances, the first hours of the game will be a breez as many machines will use this damage type against the player.
1Nora Sentinel
The starting gear of the Nora Anointed is a set players can continue to wear for a long time at the beginning ofHorizon: Forbidden West. However, the Nora Sentinel gear can do what that armor does, but even better. It can befound as earlyas Barren Light.
While it doesn’t have the same healing properties, the increased resistances as well as the buffs to Aloy’s concentration and stamina makes this set a great one to use while attacking either machine or human enemies. The only element players really need to avoid is those that use acid, as this armor is incredibly vulnerable to it.
