WithHorizon Forbidden Westbeing such a massive game with lots of tasks to complete, having a way to make traversal more seamless is a must, which is where the new Shieldwing Glider comes into play. Very similar toLink’s paraglider fromBreath of the Wild, Aloy’s Shieldwing can help her glide across a large amount of space to get down from high points easily.
In this guide forHorizon Forbidden West, fans will learnhow to get the gliderfor Aloy and how to use it properly.
How to Get the Glider
Horizon Forbidden Westplayers won’t have to dive deep into side quests or secret ruins to unlock the Shieldwing glider. Luckily, this new traversal item will be obtained as part of Aloy’s main story missions. Thestory ofForbidden Westunfolds over the course of 17 missions, andthe Shieldwing Glider is automatically obtained after the events of mission 4, “The Embassy.“After a cutscene with Lawan, the story mission will come to an end, and players will earn experience points and skill points, and they can finally use the glider whenever they want.

How to Use Shieldwing Glider
The in-game description of the Shieldwing reads: “The Shieldwing is an energy-based glider repurposed from machine technology.“Horizon Forbidden Westplayerscan now jump off a high point (like a mountain, for example) and then hold the Square button while in the air to deploy the Shieldwing and glide through the sky. Not only will this protect players from taking major fall damage from tall heights, but they can cover large distances faster. To stop gliding and fall to the ground, players need to tap the Circle button on the PS4’s DualShock or PS5’s Dualsense controller.
With the Shieldwing in hand, players will now move forward in the story to mission 5, called “Death’s Door,” with a recommended level of 10. So if players have been skipping side content and are not to that level yet, it’s recommended to grind a little to ensure the path forward isn’t too daunting. And “grinding” inHorizon Forbidden Westdoesn’t have to just be fighting machines; completing tasks all around the map will earn Aloy lots of XP to level up fast.
Horizon Forbidden Westis available now for PS4 and PS5.
