Summary

Skyrimmanaged to drop some hints that could point towards a surprisingly dark turn forOblivion’s protagonist, the Hero of Kvatch. Of course, the player won’t be spending much time with the Hero of Kvatch, sinceSkyrimisn’t their story to tell. However, the player can glean just enough details about them to put some pieces together. While it’s not 100% confirmed what happened to the Hero of Kvatch afterOblivion,Skyrimdoes offer a fair amount of hints. If these hints are true, thenOblivion’s hero has a role unlike any otherElder Scrollsprotagonist.

With arumored remaster ofOblivionbeing discussed, the Hero of Kvatch feels more relevant than they have been in years. Much likeSkyrim’s Last Dragonborn, the Hero of Kvatch’s story starts at their lowest point, having recently been imprisoned. However, after encountering Emperor Uriel Septim in an attempt to evade assassins, they end up wrapped in a quest that puts the fate of Cyrodil in their hands. In typicalElder Scrollsfashion, the Hero of Kvatch can be whoever the player desires in terms of race, class, and skills. The Hero of Kvatch would eventually become the Champion of Cyrodil as a whole.

The Hero of Kvatch May Have Made Skyrim’s Most Surprising Cameo

The Hero of Kvatch Becomes Sheogorath in an Expansion

After fighting manypowerful enemies inOblivion, the Hero of Kvatch could have faded into history after their journey’s end. However, fate took them down a different path. In the Shivering Isles expansion forOblivion, the Hero travels to the titular location, which happens to be the domain of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. In the expansion, the Hero of Kvatch is able to defeat the God of Order Jyggalag, but because Jyggalag and Sheogorath are one and the same, the Prince of Madness dies as well. After these events, the Hero of Kvatch ends up taking up Sheogorath’s throne, becoming his successor.

Sheogorath Returns For a Quest in Skyrim

Sheogorath returns in one of theDaedric quests ofSkyrim, The Mind of Madness. In this quest, Sheogorath acts like the same wacky character that charmed fans in his first appearance. However, he makes a few comments about the events ofOblivionthat may raise a few eyebrows. While it’s possible that the role of Sheogorath could have been passed over once more, especially sinceOblivionplayers already saw it happen once, there is one character that certainly saw the events ofOblivionfirsthand. This interaction is a solid reason to believe thatOblivion’s Hero of Kvatch is the Sheogorath seen inSkyrim.

Skyrim’s Sheogorath always appears as a male Breton, which could be taken as possible evidence against the theory that he is the Hero of Kvatch unless he shapeshifted into a new form.

Sheogorath Meeting the Last Dragonborn Could Be a Meeting of Elder Scrolls Heroes

IfOblivion’s Hero of Kvatch is truly theSheogorath encountered inSkyrim, then it marks a momentous occasion for the series. The Last Dragonborn’s encounter with Sheogorath would be the first time in the series where two player characters properly meet and interact. Of course, if this Sheogorath is the Hero of Kvatch, his time as a protagonist has passed, with him having properly settled into his new role. That doesn’t make the occasion any less of an event, though. IfSkyrim’s Sheogorath is the Hero of Kvatch, then he and the Last Dragonborn madeElder Scrollshistory.

While it has never been explicitly confirmed whether theHero of Kvatch isSkyrim’s Sheogorath, it remains one of the game’s more intriguing mysteries. There is enough reason to believe that it could be the case, and it presents an exciting possibility. What is certain is that the Hero of Kvatch does indisputably earn Sheogorath’s throne by the end of the Shivering Isles questline. Sheogorath’s Daedric quest inSkyrimcould very well have been the Hero of Kvatch making a cameo appearance.
