Summary

Disney’s tenure with theStar Warsfranchise has been a bit of a mixed bag, and that’s true for all of its departments. On the gaming side, Disney’s shutdown of LucasArts was heartbreaking, and its early partnership with EA didn’t yield greatStar Warsexperiences at first, but now games likeRespawn’sStar Wars Jediserieshave tipped the scales back into balance, and hopefullyStar Wars Outlawswill be able to tip them even further into the green.

But nowhere is Disney’s mixed tenure withStar Warsmore obvious than its movie department. While Disney has produced disappointing duds likeRise of Skywalker, it’s also produced movies likeRogue One, a new fan-favorite. Unfortunately,Solo: A Star Wars Storyfinds itself in the former camp, being a disappointment not just for fans but for Disney as well, with it being a fairly well-known commercial failure. But despite its reception and infamy,Solo: A Star Wars Storyis about to find itself being referenced quite heavily inStar Wars Outlaws.

Star Wars Outlaws' Solo Movie Connections Explained

Star Wars Outlaws Is Set to Feature a Major Solo Movie Character

Finally set to exploreStar Wars' sprawling criminal underworld, it’s only natural for fans to expect some big cameos fromStar Wars Outlaws. From scoundrels like Lando Calrissian, tobounty hunters like Boba Fett,Star Wars Outlawshas no shortage of iconic franchise low-lives and villains to pick and choose from, but the ones it’s already chosen are rather interesting. While Jabba the Hutt has become a core part ofOutlaws' marketing, there’s one other character cameo that Ubisoft is keeping fairly quiet about, and that’s Crimson Dawn’s Qi’ra.

Introduced and last seen inSolo: A Star Wars Story, Qi’ra grew up on Corellia alongside beloved smuggler Han Solo. After the duo’s plan to escape their criminal lives failed, Qi’ra was sold into slavery, eventually becoming a trusted ally ofCrimson Dawn’s Dryden Vos. After Vos' death inSolo, Qi’ra reveals that it’s actually Darth Maul running Crimson Dawn behind the scenes, and that’s the last fans saw of Qi’ra on screen up until now.

Set between the events ofEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi,Star Wars Outlawswill see players take control of smuggler Kay Vess as she plans the greatest heist the galaxy has ever seen. Along the way, she’ll have to make allegiances with the galaxy’s major criminal syndicates, and Crimson Dawn is one such faction. WhileQi’ra’s role inStar Wars Outlaws' storyhasn’t been confirmed yet, it seems likely that at this point in the timeline, she’s in charge of Crimson Dawn, with Maul having died back on Tatooine a few years beforeA New Hope. In the comics, Qi’ra becomes leader of the Crimson Dawn around this time, with one of her first acts as leader being a plot to steal Han Solo’s Carbonite-encased body from Jabba the Hutt.

Game Informer’s editor Brian Shea confirmed thatStar Wars Outlaws' Qi’ra will not be played by Emilia Clarke.

Star Wars Outlaws Might Also Feature a Card Game Seen in Solo

In arecent ESRB leak, it was seemingly confirmed thatStar Wars Outlawswill feature a playable version of the in-universe card game known as Sabacc. Though Sabacc has appeared countless times inStar Warsmedia over the last few decades, its biggest on-screen appearance was inSolo: A Star Wars Story, where Han Solo manages to win the Millennium Falcon from Lando.
