With the release ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, fans across the world have another chance to experience the 1997 title in modern glory. While some things may have changed in thefirst part of Cloud Strife’s journey, many familiar elements remain faithful to the original game. In battle, players can still count on being able to summon and one of the many beings they can summon is the form of a Fat Chocobo.
As a staple of the series sinceFinal Fantasy 3, summons are powerful magical beasts that have offensive, healing, or supportive effects depending on the creature. On the other hand,Chocoboshave been around sinceFinal Fantasy 2and can serve as quick transportation or an escape from a bad situation. With that in mind, the Fat Chocobo inFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeis an oversized version of the series' mascot, but players will need to first beat it in battle before earning the right to summon it.

Fat Chocobo Location
In-game, the Fat Chocobo can be acquired by fighting and defeating a VR simulation of it. Players can unlock the mission by speaking with Chadley during Chapter 9 of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakestory. Chadley will be loitering in Wall Market, west of the item shop.
Fat Chocobo Strategy
Compared to fighting other summons, the Fat Chocobo is much less intense, but players can’t just stand still and tank everything. The Fat Chocobo has no specific weaknesses, so the strongest attacks and spells available to players will do the job. Use special abilities such as Cloud’s Triple Slash to get astagger bonusand damage increase. Follow up with Aerith or Tifa’s abilities to keep the stagger going and do maximum damage.
Fat Chocobo Moveset
The Fat Chocobo uses physical attacks soplayers should equipa Barrier Materia and use either Barrier or Manawall to halve damage taken by the party. Carefully move and dodge trash that the Fat Chocobo throws out or guard to reduce any damage done by the attack. Occasionally, the Moogle accompanying the Fat Chocobo will feed it using “Eat up, kupo!”. This will cause the Fat Chocobo to use “Kweh kewh” where it jumps up and down 3 times and rolls around 5 times, guard this attack or use defensive spells in case dodging isn’t an option.
Furthermore, the Moogle will also summon additional enemies to deal with from time to time using “Fingers crossed, kupo!” These adds are ghostly versions of Cactuars, Tonberries, and Bombs. They can be easily taken out, but more will be summoned as the fight drags on so an occasional ability or offensive summon likeIfritwill keep their numbers low and the player’s attention solely on the Fat Chocobo.
Once the Fat Chocobo simulation falls, players will receive the Fat Chocobo Materia and be able to summon it in battle.
