The latestPokemon Legends: Arceusleaks suggest a ton of exciting things about the open-worldPokemontitle. For one thing, there are rumors that Primal Dialga will make its first appearance outside of thePokemon Mystery Dungeonseries, and that Palkia will get its own Primal form. There’s also word thatPokemon Legends: Arceuswill get a DLC later in 2022, which could be quite possible considering how DLC-friendly Nintendo games are nowadays. The leaks come with some more outlandish claims than these, but if they’re true, then there are new reasons to get excited forPokemon Legends: Arceus.Namely, there’s a rumor that Mewtwo will get a Hisuian form.

On the one hand, a Hisuian Mewtwo would be a pretty huge surprise. Mewtwo doesn’t have a particularly significant connection to the Hisui region, or as it’s better known, the Sinnoh region. On the other hand, Mewtwo seems like a fantastic choice for a Legendary Pokemon with a Hisuian variant, simply because it’s such a classic, well-liked Pokemon. IfthePokemon Legends: Arceusleaksare to be believed, then after the game’s release, Mewtwo will have gained some of the most alternate forms after its first appearance out of all Pokemon. Considering how frequently Mewtwo serves as an ambassador for thePokemonbrand, it’d deserve that standing.

The Significance of a Hisuian Mewtwo

The Hisuian Mewtwo rumor isn’t hard to believe because of the way that Game Freak usually distributes regional forms. A lot of the time, regional forms of Pokemon focus on redesigning old, classic monsters from the earliest generations of thePokemonfranchise, rather than spreading new forms out across generations. The majority of Galarian and Alolan Pokemon forms reimagine Pokemon like Sandshrew, Vulpix, Slowpoke, Farfetch’d, Rattata, and many more Pokemon that fans know well.If Hisuian Growlithe is any signof things to come, then there could be many other classic Pokemon getting Hisuian forms, including Mewtwo.

Even if Mewtwo is a likely candidate for a Hisuian form, choosing it over any others would still be a big deal. If Mewtwo gets a Hisuian variant, then it’ll have gained more forms since its premiere than most other Pokemon, sinceit already has two Mega Evolutions. There are only a couple of rivals out there. One of them is Charizard, the only other Pokemon with two Mega Evolutions to date, which gained a Gigantimax form inPokemon SwordandShield.Oddly enough, Meowth would also be something of a rival: it has an Alolan form, a Galarian form, and a Gigantimax form.

Mewtwo Cosplay In Action

This trio of many-faced Pokemon would actually make a ton of sense to establish. As one of the very first starter Pokemon and a longtime partner ofPokemonfranchise mascot Ash Ketchum,Charizard is inseparable from thePokemonbrand. Similarly, Meowth is extremely famous among Pokemon fans thanks to Team Rocket’s particularly intelligent Meowth. Finally, Mewtwo was one of the original post-game Legendary Pokemon, and it’s played a role in tons ofPokemoncontent since it debutedPokemon RedandBlue. If there are any Legendary Pokemon that deserve to get a third new form, it’s Mewtwo.

A Hisuian Mewtwo Isn’t Hard to Believe

Putting Mewtwo inPokemon Legends: Arceuswould be a pretty unsurprising move on Game Freak’s part. Mewtwo has already been thoroughly established as a face of thePokemonfranchise by a ton of other media. For instance, it’s one of the earliestPokemonrepresentatives inNintendo’sSuper Smash Bros.fighting game series, first appearing inMeleeand later returning in the fourth and fifth games. It’s also very important toPokemonmovie history. Not only did Mewtwo star in the very firstPokemonmovie, but it played a central role in 2019’sDetective Pikachu. Its tragic backstory, steely-eyed demeanor, and incredible power make it a perfect leading figure in appearances like these.

A Hisuian Mewtwo wouldn’t just celebrate the character’s rich legacy of appearances, though. It’d offer a refreshing new look at it. Mewtwo was famously created by humans attempting to clone mew, so if it makes an appearance inPokemon Legends: Arceus,it’ll have to come about in a similar way. A separate attempt to clone Mew could result in a Pokemon that looks very different and has a very different set of powers, resulting in a worthy Hisuian version. Hisuian Mewtwo could serve asan excellent subplot forPokemon Legends: Arceus,or alternatively, it could motivate an extra storyline that takes place after the game’s main plot.

Mewtwo’s backstory would still work well in the Hisuian context. If someone sinister working with Galaxy Team has plans to clone Mewtwo, then it’d be a great examination of how history repeats itself, even in thePokemonworld.Pokemon Legends: Arceus' version of Mewtwo could stem from a human’s fearful obsession with controlling Pokemon, as opposed toTeam Rocket’s greed for power. In other words, Game Freak has more than enough room to introduce an ancient version of Mewtwo that’s lost to history by the time of the corePokemongames.

Is Pokemon Legends Arceus the Next Mewtwo Venue?

There’s certainly a case to be made against putting Mewtwo inPokemon Legends: Arceus. One could argue that Mewtwo would distract from Arceus, the creation trio, andthe Sinnoh region’s other Legendary and Mythical Pokemon. Still, there’s a lot to be gained from a Mewtwo appearance, and there’s no denying that it’s probable. Mewtwo is so inseparable from thePokemonfranchise that it’s hard to imagine Mewtwo being totally inaccessible in anyPokemongame, even in a spinoff likePokemon Legends: Arceus.

Mewtwo might be a minor intruder in the Hisui region, but overall, it probably wouldn’t be a major distraction from the game’s other big additions. A Hisuian Mewtwo variant would be just one new feature among many confirmed changes such asthe new Pokemon Nobles, and it could have many more peers like Primal Giratina if thePokemon Legends: Arceusleaks are accurate. Not only is Hisuian Mewtwo feasible, but it’s believable.Pokemonwouldn’t be where it is today without elusive and exciting Legendary Pokemon like Mewtwo, and Mewtwo in particular has really pulled its weight over the years. A Hisuian variant of the Genetic Pokemon would only be the newest piece of evidence that it’s truly aPokemonmainstay.
