Measuring the Possibility
The UbisoftStar Warsgame does not have a lot of official information around it, andThe Mandaloriangameisn’t much more than a hopeful rumor, so anything connecting the two should only be considered speculation. That being said, there are a number of things that could link the two together, primary of which is the fact thatThe Mandalorianas a property, and the Ubisoft news is still so fresh.
As exciting as the Ubisoft news was, the game is likely in the very early stages of development. EA had a very tight hold on theStar Warslicense thanks to its exclusivity deal, so it seems unlikely that Ubisoft would already have the game in a state where it’s even playable. Considering how few details there were on the rumoredMandaloriangame however, it could mean that it’s just in the concept phase of development which would line up withhow early in development the Ubisoft game possibly is.
This could be further supported by the fact thatThe Mandalorianas a property is still fairly new. While the show ended up being a smash hit, it’s still in the process of fully asserting itself intheStar Warscanon. It has been significantly developed in its two seasons so far, but in order to give the story some meat, the game likely won’t come out until at least another season of the show premieres. It was suggested in initial reports that the Ubisoft game would not come out until after the EA deal ends in 2023, and with season three expected in 2022, it would give the game a decent amount of time to use the third season as inspiration in order to shoot for a release once the deal expires.

Ubisoft’s Skill Set
Out of the few details that are known about the UbisoftStar Warsgame is thatit will be developed by Massive Entertainment, the team behindThe Divisionand its sequel. Although the games may not have performed as well as some of Ubisoft’s other franchises, the pairing of Massive andThe Mandaloriancould bode very well for the rumored game from a gameplay perspective. One of the best thing aboutThe Divisionwas its gunplay, and there are few characters in theStar Warsuniverse that care more about their weapons than Din Djarin.
It’s not justThe Divisionthat has really solid gunplay either. Although Massive may not be involved with them, theRainbow SixandGhost Reconseries both demonstrate that Ubisoft has a knack for pumping out some satisfying shooters. With how important weapons are to Din Djarin, aMandaloriangame would have to get his assortment of weapons just right to deliver a satisfying gameplay experience. With how much praise Ubisoft has received forthe gameplay ofRainbow Six Siegein particular, it’s likely that a partnership withThe Mandalorianwould truly allow fans to feel satisfied with using his signature weapons.
In addition to the potential for solid gameplay mechanics, a Ubisoft-developedMandaloriangame would have the benefit of Ubisoft’s penchant for expansive open worlds. One of the most highly requested things in theStar Warsgaming community is a title that allows players to travel the galaxy to their heart’s content. Ubisoft would make the perfect candidate for this kind of game, as the company has shown withtitles likeAssassin’s Creed Odysseythat it knows how to make a massive open world. If it took a similar approach with aMandaloriangame, players would be able to explore theStar Warsgalaxy like never before.
It should be stressed that nothing official is known about any of the plot details regarding Ubisoft’sStar Warstitle, and even less is known aboutThe Mandalorianbecause as of right now it is just a rumor. There is a lot of potential in the leak about the rumored game, but until official announcements are made then everything is purely speculation. Withhow wildly popularThe Mandalorianhas turned out to behowever, it would make a lot of sense for there to be some kind of video game adaptation in the works. Fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for any other evidence that the game might exist, and if it turns out that it is indeed Ubisoft’s highly anticipated project.
AMandaloriangame is rumored to be in development.
