Summary
Aside from some pretty major technical issues at launch,Star Wars Jedi: Survivorwas, by all accounts, a great game. With excellent Soulslike combat, great level design, a good story, some complex characters, and plenty of bombastic set pieces,Star Wars Jedi: Survivorwas the perfect sequelin many ways, and it now sits comfortably as one of the bestStar Warsgames ever made. That sets the bar pretty high for Ubisoft’s upcomingStar Wars Outlaws.
From the brief gameplay breakdown that Ubisoft released back in June,Star Wars Outlawslooks like it’s trying some pretty impressive things. Leaning all the way into an open-world formula,Star Wars Outlawslooks like it’s going to focus on delivering a large-scale adventure that takes players across the whole galaxy, and while it’ll definitely share some similarities withRespawn’sJediseries, it looks like it’ll have enough unique elements to stand apart. Though, in one big way,Star Wars Jedi: Survivormay have already taken the wind out ofStar Wars Outlaws' sails.

SetbetweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi,Star Wars Outlawssees players take on the role of Kay Vess, a smuggler looking to find her big break in a galaxy that’s still very much dominated by the oppressive rule of the Galactic Empire. But while the Empire might have spread itself across the galaxy, it’s spread itself too thin in some places, allowing the criminal underworld to rise up and seize power in a few Outer Rim systems. Playing as a member of this criminal underworld, it’s only natural thatStar Wars Outlawswill see players interact with fellow smugglers, thugs, thieves, and bandits, which paves the way for a ton of potential cameos.
It wouldn’t be a modern-dayStar Warsproject if it didn’t have cameos in it, andStar Wars Outlawshas already confirmed one big legacy appearance, withJabba the Huttdefinitely being in the game. ButStar Wars Outlaws' cameos probably won’t end there. Of all the possible cameosStar Wars Outlawscould have, it’s probably the franchise’s bounty hunters that have the most potential, since they rarely get much screen time. Iconic bounty hunters like Bossk, IG-88, Dengar, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss would all be welcome cameos inStar Wars Outlaws. Of course, there’s one bounty hunter that fans would love to see much more than the rest, butStar Wars Jedi: Survivorgot their first.
Despite taking place in one of the franchise’s most integral periods,Star Wars Jedi: Survivorkeeps its cameos to a minimum, letting Cal Kestis and the rest of the Mantis crew shine. That being said, the cameos thatJedi: Survivordoes have are pretty spectacular, and its Boba Fett appearance hits quite hard. Coming right at the end of a very long bounty hunting side quest,Boba Fett makes a brief cameo inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. Though he only speaks a few lines of dialogue, Boba’s presence acts as a well-earned reward for the player after a lengthy side quest, and it easily becomes one of the game’s most memorable moments.
While there’s more than enough Boba Fett to go around, seeing a cameo of him inStar Wars Outlawswould definitely have less of an impact now, with many fans seeing him appear in a video game earlier this year. What would makeStar Wars Outlaws' potential Boba Fett appearance stand out more is if the iconic bounty hunter was given a more substantial role, not just appearing as a quick cameo, but instead maybe having his own associated questline.
Star Wars Outlawsis coming in 2024 to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
