AsMarvel’s Avengersspeeds towards its rapidly approaching September release, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have started revealing more and more about the game. The effort began last month duringthe first planned War Table eventwhich showed off new gameplay, game mechanics, and much more. The team has remained active on social channels answering fan questions and detailing smaller bits of information.

On the officialMarvel’s AvengerssubReddit, Philippe Therien held a AMA session with fans who had questions regarding the upcoming superhero action title. One fan asked Therien, who serves as the title’s War Zones Director, if it would be possible if players could select the same hero for the mission. Therien wasted no time in shooting down the theory, stating that having two Hulks or multiples of any other playable character wouldn’t be possible at launch.

The answer itself shouldn’t be too surprising as Crystal Dynamics has been pretty open by confirming multiple versions of the same character can’t be selected inthe War Zones co-op missions. While Therien’s answer is short and to the point, some have taken his answer in a different direction. Some have chosen to interpret it as the team doesn’t plan to include this feature at launch but it could be something added post-launch. It’s a point that some users have picked up on with one even saying that they want to grab a friend to recreate a Captain America versus Captain America scene from the MCU movie,Avengers: Endgame.

The session also revealed new details like the intrinsic abilities whichfuel each character’s special powers, AI teammates can be used for players who may not want to matchmake with other players, and characters can use combo attacks against enemies. One user discussed the idea of Flashback missions for certain characters, exploring a character’s history such as Captain America’s participation in WW2. While that type of content isn’t planned, it got the attention of Therien who is bringing it to the team.

The lack of multiple heroes in cooperative War Zones missions may disappoint some, especially considering that Crystal Dynamics has previously confirmed that with all of the customization available, no two characters will likely look or play exactly the same. Part of this effort to allow players to personalize their set of heroes is through the cosmetics system which gives each hero all sorts of unique skins that pulls from their comics history. Naturally, the game will alsofeature paid cosmeticsfor those who want to spend a little bit of money to make their character look even more unique.

Marvel’s Avengersreleases on September 4 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
