Over the years, there have been a dozen different characters who have been infected with the Venom symbiote, and fans are having fun trying to crack this mystery forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The origins of this meme stem back to 2023’s Summer Game Fest, which premiered earlier this month. During the show, Insomniac showed up to confirm therelease date forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2as well as a quick detail that sparked the curiosity of the entire fan base. Insomniac’s Brian Horton confirmed that Venom in the game is not Eddie Brock, the most popular character to don the black symbiote. With this fact established, it’s only natural forSpider-Manfans to wonder who Venom could possibly be.

The general theme of this meme is that “anyone can be venom.” Some suggestions are fairly practical, such asMiles Morales’ main villain Simon Krieger. This theory makes a small bit of sense, as Simon could believably turn to the symbiote to get revenge on Miles for throwing him into prison. Other suggestions, like Miles’ best friend Ganke being Venom, don’t add up at all. Even though some of these suggestions may be farfetched, entire backstories are often created to justify the theory, such as Ganke becoming so jealous of being a third wheel that he goes on a quest for power.
The meme itself has quickly gone off the rails when it comes to serious guessing, as many of the suggestions are either random or not to be taken seriously. For example, Gloria Davila, the leader of the F.E.A.S.T homeless shelter or the guy from the side quest inMarvel’s Spider-Manwho dressed up like the titular hero. But the most hilarious suggestion for Venoms’s identity has to be thebodega cat fromMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales- which, due to how the symbiote can form itself into whatever shape it wants, is technically possible.
For players who have finishedMarvel’s Spider-Man, the answer for who Venom is may have already been answered. After the credits rolled, a cut scene showedNorman Osborne aiding his son Harry Osbornein a water tank with a black substance covering parts of Harry’s body. Due to this scene, the chances are high that Harry is Venom, but players won’t know for sure until later this year.
