Rumors and leaks have always been a part of the gaming industry, but in the last decade or so, they’ve risen in prominence quite a bit, with more people than ever wanting to know what’s in store for some of their most anticipated upcoming games. Thoughleaks and rumorscan affect games of all shapes and sizes, it’s usually more high-profile AAA projects that receive the most substantial leaks, often due to their teams being much bigger, and therefore, there being much more room for information to spill over the sides.Mortal Kombat 1is a great example of this.
Though it may not quite be on the same level of popularity as something likeCall of Duty,Mortal Kombatis still one of the biggest fighting game franchises out there, and its fanbase is always hungry for new information, whether it’s about a new release or potential upcoming DLC. This has led to several majorMortal Kombat 1leaks over the last year or so, and there’s one long-rumored DLC fighter that NetherRealm finally needs to pull the trigger on.
It’s Time for Doom Slayer to Come to Mortal Kombat 1
The Rumors Surrounding Mortal Kombat 1’s Doom Slayer DLC
TheMortal Kombatfranchise was surprisingly ahead of the curve when it comes to pop-culture crossovers. First introduced into the franchise with 2011’sMortal Kombat, whereGod of War’s KratosandNightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger appeared as guest fighters, crossover DLCs have since become a staple ofMortal Kombat, with multiple guest fighters appearing inMortal Kombat X,Mortal Kombat 11, and nowMortal Kombat 1.
WhileMortal Kombat Xfocused on bringing horror icons to the long-running fighting game franchise,Mortal Kombat 11swung the crossover door wide open, bringing characters like Spawn, Joker, Terminator, and Rambo all together in one place.Mortal Kombat 11’s DLC rostersuggested that no guest crossover was off the table and that one of the most popular choices among players is surelyDoom’s demon-hunting Doom Slayer, no matter how slim the chances may be.
Originally appearing on a list of leaked DLC characters forMortal Kombat 11alongside the likes ofEvil Dead’s Ash Williams, the Doom Slayer has been a long-requested DLC character for theMortal Kombatfranchise, and that desire has only grown with the launch ofMortal Kombat 1. A little while before its release,Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC roster was supposedly leaked, and Doom Slayer was once again at the top of the list. Though Doom Slayer is yet to appear inMortal Kombat 1, there is only a slight glimmer of hope that he’ll appear in the game’s long-rumored second Kombat Pack.
Doom Slayer Would Be a Perfect Fit for Mortal Kombat
Although the art style and graphical fidelity have obviously changed quite a bit between entries, most character and environmental designs inMortal Kombathave stayed largely the same over the last few decades, giving the franchise a very particular aesthetic, an aesthetic thatDoom’s Doom Slayerwould fit perfectly. Equipped with dark and gritty armor and weapons, and coming from a franchise renowned for its gore, the Doom Slayer makes perfect sense as aMortal Kombatfighter, and his moveset seems fairly obvious already.
From using his Flame Belcher to set his opponent on fire, to using his Super Shotgun to blast them to the other side of the arena, to severing off limbs with his chainsaw, Doom Slayer’s arsenal would need very few tweaks or changes to fit withinMortal Kombat’s universe.
