Mushoku Tenseihas featured lots of characters. Awide range of its characterscan use magic, but some are more capable than others. Some individuals practice from birth, while others are innately talented, perhaps becauseof their raceor if they were born with the Laplace factor.
Magic users are classified into beginner, intermediate, advanced, saint, king, emperor, and divine. Some mages can cast higher ranks of magic than others. Of course, while more advanced spells are more destructive, a mage’s ability to quickly cast lower-level magic to their highest potential keeps them at a higher rank. Plenty of characters have proven that in terms of using magic, few can compare to them.
Updated on July 17, 2025, by Oluwatokiloba Folami:Contrary to popular opinion, the number of named mages in the Mushoku Tensei series so far is not as populous as one would assume. With very few pure mages like Rudeus and his two wives, Roxy and Sylphy, many other mages function like Ghislaine and Elinalise, knowing only the fundamental rudiments of magic and using it primarily for support in battles. With every named mage in Mushoku Tensei being a valuable asset in their respective field, it’s hard to forget them, but of course, outlier mages when it comes to pure capabilities and character like Kishirika Kishirisu exist. These mages tend to dominate whatever battlefields they find themselves whether through brute force, tactics, magical tools, or even downright questionable personalities.
11Kishirika Kishirisu
The Daughter Of The First Demon God
As an immortal demon empress with a plethora of demon eyes, Kishirika’s magical capability is no joke. As Rudeus has proven, the greater theefficiency of one’s mana control, the greater they can utilize their demon eyes, and as a demon empress with so many demon eyes, Kishirika must be able to keep them under control and utilize them effectively.
So far, in terms of battle capacity and mana pool, Kishirika’s competence or lack thereof hasn’t been shown, but as the daughter of the First demon god and Kirisis Calisis, the inventor of magic circles, Kishirika is trusted to be widely skilled in magic. Unfortunately, despite her many abilities, Kishirika isn’t the most ambitious of demon empresses and is often regarded as childlike and thoughtless, which puts her in situations in which she’s always helpless and begging for food.
10Talhand
An Unexpected Powerhouse
As a dwarf, Talhand isn’t the first character to come to mind when speaking of the most powerful mages in the series; however, as a magical knight, commonplace adventurers stand no chance when having him. As shown so far, Talhand even dwarfs Elinalise in terms of pure magical abilities, as he’s known to be able to cast intermediate-rank earth magic and the elementary forms of various magical attributes.
Moreover, as a dwarf, Talhand is particularly talented when it comes to casting earth and fire magic. However, to be the right hand of the current Ore God of Dwarf Village, he had to learn to cast water and wind magic.
9Cliff
A Pioneer In The Art And Science Of Magic Tool Creation
Known to be a genius even at the Ranoa Magic Academy, Cliff is not to be underestimated. In terms of attack magic, he has reached advanced rank in the elements of water, earth, wind, and fire. Meanwhile, in support forms of magic such as detoxification, healing, and divine strike magic, he’s also reached advanced rank.
Despite Cliff’s ability to cast advanced spells in various forms of magic, his true genius lies in the creation of magic tools. With his determination tocure Elinalise’s curse, Cliff became the first-ever mage to create magic tools capable of suppressing curses. With brawn and particularly brains, Cliff is able to navigate a myriad of situations.
8Sylphy
Can Use Voiceless Healing Magic
While they were children, Rudeus trained Sylphy to use magic, teaching her voiceless spell casting, among other things. She also learned to use disturb magic after she met Rudeus at Ranoa Magic Academy. Because she started learning and training her magic at a young age, Sylphy’s dexterity with mana is impressive.
Sylphy started as a friend of Rudeus, with whom she shared many moments. When the duo reunited afterthe teleport incident, they got married, creating quite the power couple.
7Roxy Migurdia
Rudeus’ Childhood Magic Teacher
As a mage, Roxy Migurdia is incredibly talented. She can use saint and king-rank magic in fire and water magic, respectively. While Roxy is unable to use voiceless incantations, she can chant omit, skipping some parts of the incarnation to make her casting speed faster. In other forms of magic, such as earth, wind, and healing magic, Roxy is of advanced rank.
InMushoku Tensei, Roxy served as Rudeus' first magic mentor when he was a child. She was the one who taught him water magic and trained him to utilize the various elements. After the teleport incident, Roxy joined other adventurers to look for Paul, Zenith, and other members of Rudeus' family.
6Moore
A Wide Range Of Combat Experience
As the captain of the demon lord’s (Atoferatofe Rybak’s) guards, Moore is a powerful demon lord who can omit chants to cast spells faster and more efficiently. Despite being inferior to Rudeus in terms of mana pool capacity and voiceless spell casting, Moore was able to match Rudeus in a battle of magic.
His expertise and combat experience with magic are greater than Rudeus’, making him a tough opponent to beat. Like many other powerful demons, including his master, Moore is immortal. Even if he has been decapitated or his heart has been stabbed, he is sure to stand up again.
5Perugius Dola
Waits For Laplace To Be Born To Seal Him Again
The Armed Dragon King is one of the seven heroes who defeated the Dragon God Laplace. Perugius Dola is skilled in teleportation and summoning magic. Each of his summons, especially Almanfi the Bright, is powerful. Almanfi traded blows with Sword King Ghislaine, even if for a short time.
As a member of the dragon tribe, Perugius is naturally skilled at magic. Like Orsted, the Armored Dragon King also possesses dragon gates that he can use to absorb magic. After Perugius and Rudeus come into contact with each other, they become allies, and Perugius helps Rudeus and his friends get from one place to another via teleportation circles.
4Rudeus Greyrat
A Human From Another World
The protagonist ofMushoku Tenseihas been talented at magic since he was a child. When he reincarnated with the mind of a 34-year-old, Rudeus adapted to many things after he was reborn. As the pioneer of silent casting, Rudeus' casting time is extremely short. Moreover, he has what might be the largest mana pool in the series.
As a magician, Rudeus possesses the Laplace factor, which increases his mana pool. This is because the body he was born into was to be a potential vessel for Laplace. He has achieved emperor rank in water magic and is saint-ranked in earth, wind, fire, and healing magic. To further cement his position as a powerful magician,Rudeus can use disturb magicthat interferes with another person’s spell.
3Laplace
It Took Seven Heroes To Seal Him
Even after being split into the technique god and the demon god, Laplace’s two halves remain part of thestrongest god rankings. Considering how powerful he remains even after being split, one can only imagine what Laplace was like before he was split. Of all the characters inMushoku Tensei, Laplace has one of the biggest mana pools, with only Rudeus growing to surpass him. Laplace also serves as one of the remaining surviving dragon gods.
Laplace holds key roles inMushoku Tensei, holding the key for Orsted to defeat Hitogami. However, neither of Laplace’s halves has appeared inMushoku Tensei.
2Hitogami
A Human God, Said To Be Able To Destroy The World
While theself-proclaimed human godoften behaves in a cheerful and cunning manner, few would survive a direct confrontation with him. Most of Hitogami’s abilities are unknown. However, he was the one who created the current setting of the series by deceiving the First Dragon God into going to war, thereby indirectly destroying the dragon world and the other realms.
Hitogami is Orsted’s sworn enemy. Orsted’s father, the First Dragon God, stated that only another god could kill him. Hitogami possesses divine abilities, as he can see the future, and, to a certain extent, can even change the future.
