A potentially confusing element of the announcement is that it specifies the original Complete Edition ofMetro: Last Lightwill be the free offering. However, that is different from the edition currently available on Steam,Metro: Last Light Redux, the remastered version that contains all DLC. TheMetrovideo games are based on a series of bookswritten by Dmitry Glukhovsky, a Russian author and journalist. There are three main novels, and over the years, a number of different creators have joined in to release comics, graphic novels, short stories, and even a board game based in theMetrouniverse. A movie was also announced to be in the works a few years ago, though that project has since faded from the limelight with no updates.
Two of Glukhovsky’sMetrobooks and the three gamesfollow the steps of protagonist Artyom as he travels through Moscow’s underground metro system, which shelters the survivors of a 2013 nuclear catastrophe. Twenty years later, different factions have arisen, animals have mutated from the radiation, and mysterious beings with psychic powers called the Dark Ones have also begun to make an appearance. Artyom sets out on a multifaceted quest to help the inhabitants of the increasingly dilapidated metro, take out rival factions, and investigate the Dark Ones.
Metro: Last Lightis currently available on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
