Summary
The God Valley Incident is one of the most important events inOne Piece’shistory. It occurred 38 years before the current timeline, and it drastically changed the world. It was first mentioned by Sengoku while talking to his juniors about the Rocks Pirates and the other legendary pirates of the Old Era.
The former Fleet Admiral did not disclose too many details about the incident. He only gave the audience an idea of what transpired in God Valley all those years ago. Ever sinceOne Pieceentered the Final Saga, Oda has been revealing key details about the World Government and other things. In one of the more recent chapters, he changed his focus to the God Valley incident.
What Was Happening At God Valley
The island was chosen by the Celestial Dragons as their playground for the Hunting Competition. They had been waiting for the competition for a long time, so they were extremely excited to see the outcome. The Hunting Competition was a manifestation of the sick and twisted desires of the Celestial Dragons. The rules of the competition were simple: certain fighters would hunt down the locals, slaves, and other criminals. Upon successfully killing a person, they would earn points. Each target had a different number of points. Locals probably had the lowest points, while criminals and special slaves were worth more.
When the king of God Valley found out about the intentions of the World Government, he was beside himself with rage. He tried to question the Celestial Dragons but was killed by St. Figarland Garling. When the hunt began, the people were given false hope that they would be spared if they managed to survive. The Celestial Dragons only did so to make the competition more exciting, as they were aware that the slaves would not run away if they did not have any hope.
The slaves were being hunted by special hunters; the most famous of them was St. Figarland Garling. Since he was considered the favorite to win, he started the competition with -10,000 points. However, it didn’t take long for him to overturn the deficit and take the lead. The other hunters were also impressive, but none of them came close to Figarland Garling’s skills. While they were enjoying their hunt, the Rocks Piratesdeparted from Hachinosu andmade their way to God Valley.
The Incident
The Rocks Pirates made their way to God Valley for unknown reasons. Regardless, they were ready to fight and cause chaos. Rocks D. Xebec wanted to claim the Empty Throne and become the ruler of the world. It is possible that he wanted to fight Jaygarcia Saturn and defeat him to learn the secrets of the organization. Or it could be that he wanted totake the Celestial Dragonshostage and use them as bargaining chips to obtain something from the World Government.
Rocks and his crew are considered to be the most dangerous in history, and they would have managed to achieve their goals if the World Government hadn’t received unexpected support from Garp and Gol D. Roger.
It is unclear why Garp decided to team up with his arch-nemesis Roger, but it was probably because he was aware ofthe strength of the Rocks Pirates. There were great fighters on both sides, but none of them could fight Rocks in a 1v1. So, Roger and Garp might have decided to take on Rocks collectively. While the others fought among themselves. It has been clarified that the Rocks Pirates were not the most harmonious pirate crew, so there could have been betrayals and desertions that cost them. Once the fighting was over, the Rocks Pirates disbanded and went their separate ways. Rocks D. Xebec was announced dead, and God Valley disappeared forever.
The Aftermath
Almost all the people involved in the incident went on to have impressive careers. Big Mom and Kaido started their own crews and became Yonko. The power of the two individuals was so frightening that the Marines were on high alert when rumors abouta possible alliance betweenthe two started to float. Monkey D. Garp came to be known as the Hero of the Marines for his efforts. Whitebeard also started his own crew and became the fiercest rival of Gol D. Roger. His Devil Fruit and Haki earned him the epithet “Strongest Man in the World.“St. Figarland Garling becamethe leader of the God Knights and was granted a great deal of authority. So far, he is the only person who has murdered a Celestial Dragon and not suffered any repercussions.
However, none of their feats came close to those of Gol D. Roger. His crew managed to complete their voyage and reach Laugh Tale. Roger received the title of King of the Pirates, and in the process, he also learned about the true history of the world. Shortly after his crowning moment, Roger disbanded the crew and turned himself in to the Marines. Before his execution, he gave a speech about his treasure, starting the Golden Age of Pirates.
